Which of the three major operators has the first chance in 5G research and development? How will life be disrupted?

It is reported that my country will launch the second phase of 5G testing in 2017 and is expected to complete it by the end of that year, and the 5G network is expected to be officially commercialized in 2020. In addition, if all work goes smoothly, the three major operators may start 5G network construction in 2019. The total scale of network construction will be comparable to that of the existing 4G network, and the overall investment is expected to exceed 500 billion yuan.

In the 5G R&D, the three major operators are operating independently. Who can seize the opportunity?

As the development trend of future communication technology, major companies including operators are also rushing to research and develop 5G technology. Currently, in accordance with the deployment of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the three major operators have actively carried out 5G research and deployment.

Not long ago, China Mobile announced the establishment of a 5G joint innovation center in Qingdao. In addition to developing and verifying 5G-related technologies, it will also conduct 5G application tests in multiple fields such as the Internet of Things and mobile medical care.

As early as 2012, China Telecom took the lead in launching 5G technology research and development, and has established a 5G evaluation system to support industry cross-validation, and has carried out extensive exchanges and cooperation with 5G research organizations, and worked with domestic and foreign equipment manufacturers to promote the 5G research and development process. According to the 5G standardization timetable proposed by the ITU, China Telecom has even made relevant preparations for international standardization, and has successfully obtained the lead in carrying out a number of 5G-related 3GPP international standardization research projects represented by flexible duplex technology.

A relevant person in charge of China Unicom pointed out that China Unicom is actively following the development of 5G and actively promoting it in accordance with the unified deployment of relevant state departments.

It is generally believed in the industry that China Telecom, which holds the power to set standards, will have more say in the upcoming 5G era. In addition, in addition to the three major operators, telecom equipment manufacturers such as Huawei, ZTE, Nokia, and Ericsson are also accelerating the research and development of key 5G technologies.

So, what changes will the increasingly mature 5G bring to our lives?

The 5G era is not far away. At present, my country has successfully completed the first phase of 5G technology research and development test. The most obvious difference from 3G to 4G is probably the speed. The high-speed mobile network allows us to imagine a convenient mobile Internet life. It only takes a few seconds to pay for something with a mobile phone. So, what kind of subversion will 5G bring?

First of all, it is speed. 5G will be 10 to 100 times faster than 4G. Such ultra-high speed will also increase the capacity of the network and accommodate more users logging on to the network at the same time.

Secondly, VR technology, which is now popular, also requires extremely fast network transmission for various body sensations. When you put on a VR helmet, you enter a virtual world where you can interact with others, play games, and even high-five. With 5G, mutual collaboration between users will usher in a new era, and two people in the same physical location will be able to cooperate with each other.

In addition, the current 4G network cannot support a large number of devices connecting to the network at the same time, and only supports a small number of mobile phones. In the 5G era, there can be even 1 million network connections at the same time within 1 square kilometer. Most of them are various devices. Based on this, people can get more information, such as road environment, provide driving information, analyze real-time data, and intelligently predict road conditions... Through them, drivers can understand their own and surrounding vehicle conditions in a truly 360-degree view without being affected by the weather. They can also get early warnings when encountering dangers, and even realize the unmanned driving that has long been proposed.

It is undeniable that the network is a pipeline by nature. As a transmission carrier, the application of 5G will also make some industries completely mobile, panoramic videos can be realized on mobile terminals, AR (augmented reality) applications will be everywhere, etc. Faster Internet connection, more bearers, and the ability to meet more large-volume applications will allow the potential 5G to create more incredible things for us. Aren't you looking forward to it?
