Wenku: Improve the IPv6 standard system and develop key standards

On October 11, the 2021 China IPv6 Innovation and Development Conference was held in Beijing. Wen Ku, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the China Communications Standards Association, delivered a keynote speech entitled "Promoting the Construction of IPv6 Standards."

As we all know, IPv6 is the main direction of the evolution and upgrading of the Internet, a new starting point for the innovative development of the next generation of the Internet, and an important part of the construction of a cyber power and a digital China. Wen Ku pointed out that actively planning the formulation of IPv6 next generation Internet related standards and strengthening cooperation with international technical standards organizations are one of the important tasks for my country to develop IPv6.

In July this year, the Central Cyberspace Affairs Commission, the National Development and Reform Commission, and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology jointly issued the "Notice on Accelerating the Large-Scale Deployment and Application of Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6)", which made arrangements and arrangements for promoting the establishment of an IPv6 standard working group and accelerating the formulation of standards and specifications. At the same time, it emphasized the need to focus on building a systematic and complete IPv6 standard system, strengthen the guidance of standards, and promote the integration and innovative application of IPv6.

Speaking of standards, Wen Ku introduced that my country started the formulation of IPv6 standards in 2011. After more than 20 years of development, my country has formulated and issued 120 IPv6 standards. The standards cover IPv6 protocols, IPv6 network equipment, IPv6 transition technology and other aspects, which effectively support my country's IPv6 network construction and industrial development.

At present, my country has made a lot of progress in IPv6 standards at home and abroad. The current IPv6 standards have formed a systematic and standardized trend, covering five major categories of standards: resources, networks, applications, security, and transition. The overall progress is consistent with international standards. However, Wen Ku also pointed out that IPv6 still has some shortcomings. The top-level design of IPv6 standards needs to be further improved, the participation of international standards needs to be improved, and there is a lack of IPv6 standards for specific scenarios in different industries.

In order to comprehensively promote the large-scale deployment and application of IPv6 during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the industry will take standards as a guide to coordinate the large-scale deployment and integrated application of IPv6. Wen Ku said that the industry will strengthen the guidance of standards on the basis of existing standardization, focus on the large-scale deployment of IPv6, and national standards with universal industry integration and innovative development significance in the application process, build a standard system, carry out standard development work, and promote the large-scale deployment of IPv6 in all industries and fields.

The first is to set up an IPv6 working group. In the National Communications Standardization Technical Committee and the China Communications Standards Association, a special IPv6 standards working group will be organized to serve as the national IPv6 standardization platform, focus on domestic IPv6 forces, form a joint force, study and formulate a plan for IPv6 standards, coordinate the development of IPv6 national standards, and provide standard guidance for the deployment and transformation of IPv6 in various industries.

Second, we will continue to increase cooperation on international standards. "China's standard setting is open, and China's standards are aligned with international standards. We welcome domestic and foreign companies to actively participate in the formulation of China's standards. Our standard setting serves the development of China's IPv6 network. We will also provide good technical supply of China's technology to the world's IPv6 standards." Wen Ku said frankly.

Third, we need to improve the standard system and develop key standards. We need to sort out the existing IPv6 standard system, be guided by standard requirements, focus on problems and shortcomings, and innovate the standardization work mechanism. We need to promote the development of IPv6 development indicators and monitoring methods in various fields, and focus on strengthening the development of standards from the aspects of monitoring terminal security industry integration application innovation technology, etc.

Among them, in terms of IPv6 monitoring standards, the focus is on studying IPv6 monitoring indicators and evaluation method standards in the fields of network infrastructure applications and infrastructure applications, and supporting relevant departments in supervising and evaluating key links in the process of large-scale deployment of IPv6.

  • In terms of IPv6 terminal standards, the focus is on studying the standards for technical requirements and evaluation methods for supporting the IPv6 protocol for various types of terminal equipment, and providing standard support for terminal manufacturers to develop terminal equipment that supports IPv6.
  • In terms of IPv6 security, the focus is on studying the standards of IPv6 security architecture, security protocols and security equipment to provide security protection for the large-scale deployment and application of IPv6.
  • In terms of IPv6 industry integration application standards, the focus is on studying the deployment standards of IPv6 applications in industries such as finance, electricity, petroleum, petrochemicals, and industrial Internet.
  • In terms of IPv6 innovation standards, the focus is on studying the technical standards of the new IPv6 network architecture for key technologies such as network intelligence, virtualization, and cloud computing.

Wen Ku revealed that the next step will be to combine the new situation, new technologies and new demands, and in the process of promoting the large-scale deployment and application of IPv6, timely improve the IPv6 standard system, propose corresponding standard projects, and carry out standard development work to provide standard support for building a cyber-powerful Digital China.
