August 30 news: The 9th "International Symposium on Future Information and Communication Technology" was held in Beijing on August 30.

This seminar, with the theme of "ICDT in the next decade driven by innovation", revolved around innovation in the field of information and communication technology and future development trends of digital technology. Many academicians and experts gathered together to discuss how to achieve continuous innovation and promote 5G enhancement and evolution in response to the key and difficult issues of 5G deployment.

Wu Hequan, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and chairman of the Future Mobile Communications Forum, said in his speech that mobile communication technology is closely integrated with artificial intelligence, cloud computing, big data, digital twins, blockchain and other technologies while iterating, forming a new field of ICDT that has bred a large number of new technologies. ICDT should accelerate its penetration into various industries and continuously give birth to new applications, new formats and new services, such as ultra-high-definition video, virtual reality, augmented reality, Internet of Vehicles, Internet of Things services, etc. In the next decade, there will be many new applications that we cannot foresee.

Wu Hequan pointed out that the world today is at the intersection of the fourth industrial revolution and the third Internet revolution. The first three industrial revolutions were all about empowerment, while the fourth industrial revolution will not only empower, but also empower intelligence. ICDT includes artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and big data, which support broadband, full services, and the intelligent connection of all things with their basic, permeable, and driving roles, and become a new generation of new integrated strategic infrastructure to promote the digitalization, networking, and intelligent development of all walks of life. In the integration of ICDT in the 5G era, 5G has improved one to two orders of magnitude in many aspects compared to 4G, so it has a powerful enabling role and will reshape the information structure and operation mechanism of the Internet of Things, Industrial Internet, Energy Internet, and Industrial Internet.

Wu Hequan said that 5G has opened up the entire process of data collection, transmission, storage, processing, analysis, and decision-making, and has played the role of data as a production factor. 5G's powerful cloud-based integration capabilities help the collaboration of cloud, network, edge, and end to achieve data processing. 5G promotes the evolution of the Internet of Things to a broadband, big data intelligent network. 5G has enabled high-definition video to develop to 4K and 8K, greatly improving the resolution and expanding the acquisition width and video capabilities. 5G has activated virtual reality and augmented reality, and has a wide range of applications in learning, training, consumption, industry and other scenarios. 5G can link all aspects of industrial production to achieve digital modeling collaboration, intelligent manufacturing, machine vision, digital twins, supply chain management and market management, etc. 5G is constantly improving its positioning accuracy, and has a level of indoor positioning that satellite positioning cannot achieve, which will further promote its application in areas such as autonomous driving and dock loading and unloading.

Wu Hequan said that under the new concept of ICDT, the communications industry needs to adjust its development ideas, aiming at cloud nativeness, three-dimensional coverage, endogenous and trustworthy artificial intelligence, and promote cloud-network integration in infrastructure, network functions, operations management, business applications, etc., to fully exert and tap the excellent performance and potential of mobile communication technology, create new business forms of digital and intelligent transformation, and give full play to the new kinetic energy value of information and communications in the social and consumer economic fields.

Although the construction and application of 5G networks around the world have been affected to a certain extent by the epidemic, the trend of continued advancement will not change. Humankind’s vision for scientific and technological progress continues to drive the development of 5G. 6G research and development has begun. 3GPP will conduct research on 6G in 2023 and begin standardizing 6G in the second half of 2025. Advanced communications countries have already launched 6G research and development one after another. ICDT under mobile communication connections will carry the hope of high-tech industries.
