5G will be put into large-scale commercial use as early as next year's Pyeongchang Winter Olympics in South Korea, and is expected to be fully rolled out in 2020. Yesterday, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued a document clarifying the initial frequency bands of the fifth-generation international mobile communications system (IMT-2020), and plans to deploy 5G in the 3300-3600MHz and 4800-5000MHz frequency bands. The draft for comments states that “IMT-2020 in the 3300-3400MHz frequency band is limited to indoor use in principle. It can be used outdoors without causing interference to existing radio positioning service stations.”
“The IMT-2020 system radio stations in the 4990-5000MHz frequency band should not cause interference to the radio astronomy radio stations listed in footnote CHN12 of the Radio Frequency Allocation Regulations of the People’s Republic of China in this frequency band.” At present, the 4G frequency bands of the three major operators are mostly concentrated in the range of 1.8GHz~2.7GHz. However, the Snapdragon X50, the world's first 5G baseband released by Qualcomm, only supports operation in the 28GHz frequency band millimeter wave (mmWave) spectrum, with a peak download speed of 5Gbps. |
