Does your phone support 5G wifi? Is 5G Internet access really fast?

Now, China Telecom and China Unicom's 100M fiber optic access to homes has become commonplace, and the single-band 2.4G routers that are usually used are no longer sufficient. Many families have upgraded to dual-band routers that support gigabit ports. But the question is, does your phone really support 5G wifi? Is 5G wifi transmission really fast?

Many people bought dual-band routers, thinking that the Internet speed would be very fast after installation, but they found that it was not as fast as they imagined. In fact, there is a misunderstanding here.

Most of the routers we have been using support the IEEE 802.11n (fourth generation) wireless standard and work on the 2.4GHz frequency band, so it is called 2.4g Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi protocol standards that run on the 5Ghz frequency band include 802.11a (first generation), 802.11n (fourth generation, running on both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz dual bands) and 802.11ac (fifth generation). So strictly speaking, Wi-Fi that works on the 5GHz frequency band is not necessarily 5G Wi-Fi. Only Wi-Fi that uses the 802.11ac protocol is the real 5G WiFi.

Higher wireless transmission speed is the most important feature of 5G Wi-Fi. The entry-level speed of 5G Wi-Fi is 433Mbps, which is at least three times the current Wi-Fi speed. Some high-performance 5G Wi-Fi can reach more than 1Gbps. This is like a traffic jam on the highway. Everyone is crowded on the 2.4G highway, while the emerging 5G highway has many lanes but few cars, so you can go as fast as you want. Therefore, the 5G network can maintain the advantages of high speed, stability, and no disconnection. The fastest speed can reach Gigabit, which is more than twice that of ordinary 450M routers.

Some routers say they support dual-band, but the transmission rate of the 5G channel is only 300Mbps, which does not reach the entry rate of 433Mbps. Naturally, the Internet access is not that fast. In addition, 5G technology is not as mature as 2.4g, and its ability to penetrate walls is very poor. The signal becomes significantly weaker after passing a wall. This also causes the speed of mobile phone connection to the Internet to slow down. The most annoying thing is that many mobile phones do not support 5G wifi, so naturally they cannot enjoy the fast transmission speed of 5G wifi.

If you want to know whether your phone supports 5G wifi, just turn on both 2.4g and 5G in the router to see if you can find the signal. If not, you can only use a router that supports 2.4g.
