Baidu responds to real-name registration: Implementation in accordance with regulations will not affect search

Recently, Baidu Netdisk released an announcement, announcing that real-name authentication is required to use Internet services from June 1, 2017. Baidu's official Weibo account publicly explained the real-name system, saying that the real-name system does not affect search.

Baidu said that recently some users have seen prompts suggesting real-name authentication of their accounts when using multiple Baidu products. This is in accordance with the requirements of Article 24 of the "Cybersecurity Law of the People's Republic of China" which will be officially implemented on June 1.

The regulations require that network operators provide users with information publishing, instant messaging and other services. When signing an agreement with a user or confirming the provision of services, they must require the user to provide real identity information. If the user does not provide real identity information, the network operator shall not provide the relevant services to the user.

According to this requirement, Internet service providers, including Baidu, must cooperate to complete the real-name authentication process before users can enjoy relevant services. In fact, a large number of Baidu users have already completed the real-name authentication operation.

Baidu also emphasized the following three points:

1. Baidu search service, which is the most widely used service, does not require users to log in to a Baidu account to use it. Therefore, this requirement will not have a direct impact on netizens' use of Baidu search.

2. In order to facilitate the access to services when switching between multiple Baidu product platforms, it is recommended that users use Baidu search in a logged-in state after real-name authentication to obtain more personalized, safer and more efficient network services, such as personalized homepage information services for you, and the protection of the "Baidu Internet User Rights Protection Plan" that can only be enjoyed after logging in.

3. Users will enjoy a higher level of security protection after real-name authentication. We will ensure that Baidu users' personal and corporate information is effectively protected and safeguard your information security through technical means such as encrypted storage of sensitive data, monitoring of multi-layer defense, and service specifications such as multiple audits at the code level and security testing.

Baidu said that if users fail to complete real-name authentication before June 1, they may be restricted from posting information, making comments, and other related functions in some Baidu products in the future.
