Gcore (gcorelabs) Ashburn (Virginia) VPS simple test

Previously, I conducted a simple test on some of Gcore's (gcorelabs) popular regional data centers. Today, I will test a less popular regional data center: Ashburn (Ashburn is located in Loudoun County, Virginia, 30 miles west of Washington, DC). Founded in 2011, gcorelabs provides more than 30 data centers in many countries and regions including Russia, the United States, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, the Netherlands, and China (Hong Kong). I will gradually select the regions of interest to test one by one.

Computer room and configuration

The VPS tested in this article is in the Ashburn computer room in the United States, with the minimum configuration package, single-core CPU, 512MB memory, 20GB hard disk, 200Mbps port, system CentOS7.*, and no acceleration such as BBR installed.

Basic test information

IO and bandwidth testing

Use different one-click packages to capture the result pages separately. It is not a popular area, but the IO and bandwidth are good.

The two test results are similar. Although most of them are nodes in mainland China, the bandwidth is still sufficient.

Outbound Routing

Use IPIP.NET to test the outbound traffic of three networks (in the order of China Telecom, China Unicom and China Mobile)

Judging from this test, China Telecom is slightly better, while China Unicom runs farther.

Ping Test

We selected more than 200 nodes in mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and Asia for ping test. The results are pretty satisfactory, after all, it is not the western United States.

Those who are not looking for popular areas can try nodes that are not so crowded and have a more balanced bandwidth and IO. Including this time, a total of two areas were tested in the United States: Santa Clara and Ashburn. Santa Clara has a slightly lower domestic access line latency, but Ashburn has more bandwidth, so you can choose according to your specific needs.
