5G technology is expected to make various contributions to Jordan’s GDP

Recently, Ericsson commissioned management consulting firm Analysys Mason to conduct a study titled "The Future Value of Mobile in Emerging Markets", which showcased the potential economic, consumer and environmental benefits of 5G connectivity in 15 emerging markets. According to the results of the study, these markets will benefit by increasing GDP growth by 0.3% to 0.46% by 2035, with an estimated cost-effectiveness ratio of 3-7 times. Although Jordan is not one of the 15 countries in the study, we can still use the findings from the study to predict a strong connection between 5G adoption and GDP growth in Jordan.

5G is expected to boost Jordan's GDP growth, one of the main ways it can do so is through its ability to provide faster and more reliable connections. This is particularly important for Jordan, which has made major efforts in recent years to position itself as a regional technology and innovation hub. 5G will allow Jordanian businesses and individuals to access high-speed internet, enabling them to further participate in the global economy and take advantage of new opportunities for economic growth. It is worth mentioning that Jordan's mobile phone penetration rate recorded a significant increase in the second quarter of 2022, with mobile phone users reaching 7.4 million according to the Jordan Telecommunications Regulatory Commission.

In addition to improving connectivity, 5G can also drive innovation and enable the development of new technologies. 5G's high speed and low latency can support a wide range of applications and services, including the Internet of Things (IoT), self-driving cars, and virtual and augmented reality. These are expected to enhance Jordan's potential in creating new businesses and jobs, as well as new technologies in improving healthcare, transportation, and agriculture, among other areas.

In addition, 5G has the potential to improve the efficiency and productivity of existing businesses, thereby contributing to Jordan's GDP growth. For example, 5G can save costs and improve efficiency by automating various processes through the adoption of new technologies. 5G can also enable businesses to enter new markets and customers through the use of online platforms and services.

Lastly, the introduction of 5G in Jordan is expected to have a positive impact on the country’s tourism industry. Tourists take advantage of 5G to access high-speed internet while traveling, allowing them to stay connected and take advantage of online services, such as those for reservations and transportation. 5G technology can help create new tourism-related innovations, such as virtual and augmented reality experiences, which can provide tourists with near-real interactions related to tourism activities, which can attract more tourists to Jordan.

While the full potential of 5G technology has yet to be tapped, there is no doubt that 5G will create unprecedented experiences for individuals, businesses and society, making the unthinkable possible. The Kingdom of Jordan is poised to reap the benefits of 5G technology and its associated socio-economic benefits, while boosting industry and transforming the way its citizens connect and interact with one another.
