Analysis of the operating data of the three major operators in August: 5G users have entered a golden growth period

Recently, the three major operators released their operating data for August. Overall, the performance of the three major operators in August was not much different from the previous months of this year. In terms of mobile users, China Mobile has surpassed China Telecom for several consecutive months; in terms of the number of 5G users, the gap between the three operators is getting bigger and bigger. China Mobile has more 5G users than China Telecom and China Unicom. Based on this, even if China Radio and Television is added in the future, it may not be able to compete with China Mobile.

5G users enter golden growth period

Since the beginning of this year, the number of 5G users of the three major operators has increased significantly, and their performance has been impressive even in the lean months.

Specifically, the operating data released by China Mobile in August 2022 showed that in that month, China Mobile's mobile customer base increased by 2.109 million, and the total number of users reached 973.242 million. In that month, China Mobile's 5G package customers increased by 15.082 million, reaching a total of 538.794 million. The number of wired broadband customers increased by 2.648 million, reaching a total of 260.903 million.

The main operating data released by China Telecom in August 2022 showed that the number of China Telecom's mobile users increased by 1.9 million in that month, and the total number of mobile users reached 388 million. Among them, the net increase of 5G package users was 6.27 million, and the total number of 5G package users reached 243.6 million. In terms of wired broadband business, the net increase of China Telecom's wired broadband users was 930,000 in that month, and the total number of wired broadband users reached 177.07 million.

China Unicom said that the number of new 5G package users in August was 4.881 million, reaching a total of 195 million. In terms of "ubiquitous intelligent connection", as of August 2022, China Unicom's "big connection" users have reached 827.013 million, of which 5G package users have reached 194.834 million, and IoT terminal connections have reached 354.494 million. As of July 2022, the number of 5G package users has reached 189.953 million, and the number of IoT terminal connections has reached 343.403 million. This also means that the number of new 5G package users and IoT terminal connections of China Unicom in August was 4.881 million and 11.091 million respectively.

In terms of innovative applications, as of August 2022, China Unicom's 5G industry virtual private network service customers reached 2,552. In terms of smart services, China Unicom's smart customer service problem resolution rate reached 98.3% in August; the proportion of smart customer service intelligent services reached 77.2% in August. In terms of technological innovation, as of August 2022, China Unicom's cumulative number of authorized patents this year was 1,156.

The network terminal is further verified

The overall growth of 5G users in my country is due to a world-leading 5G network with wide coverage. Data shows that by the end of July, 1.968 million 5G base stations had been built and put into operation nationwide, and 5G network coverage was achieved in all urban areas of prefecture-level cities, county towns and 96% of townships and towns. The number of 5G mobile phone users reached 475 million, a net increase of 120 million from the end of 2021.

If wide coverage is the basis, then high-quality network quality is the guarantee for users. In November 2021, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued the "14th Five-Year Plan for the Development of the Information and Communications Industry", which clearly requires: accelerating the expansion of 5G network coverage, optimizing urban indoor 5G network coverage, building a 5G network quality monitoring and analysis platform, conducting quality evaluation, and promoting continuous quality optimization.

According to the "National Mobile Network Quality Monitoring Report (Issue 2)" for the second quarter of 2022 released by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, from a national perspective, the average downlink access rate of 5G networks in the second quarter of 2022 was 341.20Mbps, and the average uplink access rate was 71.98Mbps, with an overall steady growth compared with the first quarter of 2022.

Among all telecom operators, China Mobile has the highest average access speeds for 5G network downlink and uplink, reaching 355.31Mbps and 73.05Mbps respectively.

The rapid growth of China Mobile's 5G users is not only due to the support of industry and policies, but also inseparable from the high-quality 5G network.

Nowadays, 5G mobile phones have become standard, and problems such as power consumption and poor signal have become a thing of the past. This is also the cornerstone for 5G users to enter a golden growth period.

According to the first issue (17th issue in total) of the "China Telecom Terminal Insight Report" in 2022 released by China Telecom, the 5G mobile phone communication performance evaluation was announced.

In terms of 5G performance, the average throughput at the midpoint of the existing network has increased slightly compared with the previous period, and the average uplink and downlink rates have increased by 4% and 6% to 490.8Mbps and 60.3Mbps respectively; the average static PING delay at the good point and midpoint of the existing network has increased significantly compared with the previous period, an average increase of 10% compared with the previous period; the proportion of 5G mobile phone voice quality MOS values below 3.0 at the midpoint of the existing network has dropped significantly.

In terms of battery life, the 5G mobile phones participating in the evaluation have an average battery life of over 11 hours under a high-intensity business model, an increase of 13.4% compared to the previous period; the average remaining power after 5 hours of high-intensity use increased by 7PP compared to the previous period; the average time it takes to fully charge a 5G mobile phone is the same as the previous period.

Both 5G networks and terminals have been officially evaluated, which will dispel some users' concerns. I believe that in the future, more users will use 5G networks and enjoy the unique charm brought by technological progress.
