Bypassing 5G and heading straight for 6G, Russia made an "incredible" decision

Russia made an incredible decision - abandoning 5G technology and directly developing 6G network!

Although Russia is not the first to come up with this idea, last year the neighboring "Sun Country" proposed the crazy idea of bypassing 5G and going straight to 6G, but until today it has only applied for some patents and has not made much substantive progress. For Russia, making this decision may be more of a helpless move.

Investing about 240 billion rubles in a desperate fight back

According to Russian media reports, Russia will invest 30 billion rubles (about 3.45 billion yuan) to study new 6G communication standards. The development work includes equipment development, basic design, regulatory framework development, and new network electromagnetic security research.

Many netizens can't help but wonder - how can 6G be developed with less than 3.5 billion yuan?

In fact, Russia has invested 208.15 billion rubles (about 23.729 billion yuan) in infrastructure in order to develop 5G networks. In addition, Russia has invested about 240 billion rubles in the construction of 6G networks. It can be said that it has invested a lot of money. However, domestic researchers said that the current construction progress is very slow and more investment may be needed in the future.

Ericsson is giving up, Russian communications are in trouble

At present, the communication situation in Russia is not optimistic. Ericsson was originally its largest network supplier. Before the "conflict" began, the two parties had just signed a 5-year contract. Russia also entrusted the task of building a 5G network to Ericsson. Unexpectedly, for some "reasons that everyone understands", Ericsson immediately turned its back on it.

Ericsson, risking a large sum of liquidated damages, blatantly tore up the contract between the two parties and announced that it would "indefinitely stop all business in Russia", which ultimately made Ericsson's 30,000 base stations useless. Ericsson would rather let thousands of employees in Russia take paid leave at home than let them continue to work. Is it unwilling or afraid? This is a question worth pondering.

When Russia was subsequently attacked by a large number of hackers, Ericsson also took an indifferent attitude and showed no intention of fulfilling its defense responsibilities. Tongxu Network in China fell into an unprecedented panic:

1. Hackers are everywhere and network attacks are frequent

2. The network signal is very poor, and network fluctuations and interruptions often occur

3. The development of 5G network was interrupted. Ericsson bought the spectrum and ran away, and other developers were unable to take over.

In this case, if China does not find a solution, the domestic network environment will become worse and worse, and it will be difficult to keep up with the international level. Therefore, when 5G technology has basically been developed and it is difficult to enter, China's idea of "bypassing 5G and going straight to 6G" is indeed a helpless move.

Mission Impossible

Reality is often crueler than imagination. Foreign media described Russia's 6G plan as an "impossible plan" because Russia does not have much experience in developing network communication technology. From the 2G era to the 5G era, Russia's domestic network communications were basically outsourced to foreign suppliers, and Russia had no development experience at all. Now it is suddenly necessary to develop 6G technology, which is almost like starting over.

At the same time, unlike the "Sun Country", Russia is still facing many technical blockades, and it is very difficult to break through the technical bottleneck. In short, this road is rugged and dangerous, so I wish Russia good luck.
