At the Huawei Day0 Lighting Up the Future Summit held during MWC22 Barcelona, Dr. Song Xiaodi, Chief Marketing Officer of Huawei's Carrier BG, delivered a keynote speech entitled "Five Misconceptions about Green Development". Dr. Song Xiaodi pointed out: "Green development is a hot topic of general concern, but just like from Newton to Einstein, from classical mechanics to relativity, our understanding of things is a spiral process. There are currently five cognitive misunderstandings about green development. We need to break the misunderstandings and reveal the truth as soon as possible to accelerate the green development of the ICT industry." Song Xiaodi, Chief Marketing Officer of Huawei Carrier BG, delivered a keynote speech Myth 1 : The development of the ICT industry will generate a large amount of carbon emissions. The truth is that according to the GeSI report, by 2030 , the ICT industry's carbon emissions will only account for 1.97% of the world's total. By applying ICT technology, thousands of industries can reduce carbon emissions by 20% , 10 times the carbon emissions of the ICT industry itself. This enabling effect is called the carbon handprint, and the value of the "carbon handprint" makes us more determined to develop ICT infrastructure. According to Huawei's forecast, by 2030 , there will be 1YB of data in the cloud worldwide. If all of them adopt greener all-optical transmission technology, 150 million tons of carbon emissions can be saved each year, which is equivalent to planting 200 million trees, which can regreen the entire Europe. Myth 2 : Over-focusing on supply chain emissions, that is, carbon emissions from the manufacturing process of network equipment. The truth is that in the entire life cycle of network equipment, carbon emissions generated during the production stage only account for 2% , while carbon emissions during the use of equipment reach 80%-95% . We should focus on the use process of network equipment and improve the energy efficiency of network equipment through innovative technologies, which is the key to reducing carbon emissions in the ICT industry. Myth 3 : Green development is only equal to green new energy. The truth is that the green development of the ICT industry should not only vigorously develop solar and wind power, but also systematically consider the overall energy efficiency improvement of the telecommunications network. At this summit, Huawei released a three-layer green solution, which systematically improves network energy efficiency through " green sites - green networks - green operations " to help operators achieve "More Bits , Less Watts" . Myth 4 : The sum of equipment energy efficiency equals network energy efficiency. The truth is that the energy efficiency evaluation of a single-point device Box cannot support scenario-based and global planning and construction decisions. Huawei recommends establishing a unified standard indicator system NCI to accurately evaluate and formulate energy-saving strategies for the entire network by measuring the energy efficiency indicators of communication main equipment, site support, bearer network, data center, etc. Myth 5 : Energy savings cannot affect any network indicators. The truth is that we cannot burn the candle at both ends. Deploying energy-saving features will inevitably affect some network indicators, but some indicators (such as the peak rate at midnight) can be compromised because it does not affect the actual user experience. In Germany, for shopping malls at midnight, by deploying an intelligent shutdown energy-saving solution, although the peak rate was slightly reduced, the base station saved 10% energy and did not affect the user experience at all. So, can some scenarios consider balancing energy saving and some network indicators while ensuring user experience? Finally, Dr. Song Xiaodi said that Huawei has five suggestions for the green development of the ICT industry: "First, vigorously develop the ICT industry to enable green development in all industries; second, pay more attention to carbon emissions during the use phase of ICT infrastructure, not just during the production phase; third, through the " green site - green network - green operation " systematic solution, help operators continuously improve network capacity and reduce energy consumption per bit to achieve More Bits , Less Watts ; fourth, define a unified energy efficiency indicator system to identify major energy consumption issues; fifth, let user experience determine watts." The 2022 Mobile World Congress will be held in Barcelona, Spain from February 28 to March 3. Huawei's exhibition area is located in the 1H50 booth of Hall 1 of Fira Gran Via . Huawei will discuss hot topics such as industry trends, GUIDE leading the future, and green development with global operators, industry elites, and opinion leaders to lead the future of digital networks. |
