Ministry of Industry and Information Technology: my country has built and put into operation a total of 1.425 million 5G base stations

At 10 a.m. on January 20, 2022, the State Council Information Office held a press conference. Tian Yulong, chief engineer and spokesperson of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, pointed out that my country's information and communication industry achieved a new leap in 2021, with a total of 1.425 million 5G base stations built and put into operation.

Tian Yulong said that the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will further play the enabling role of the new generation of information technology, continue to improve and build new infrastructure, vigorously cultivate new business forms and new applications, and continuously enhance its ability to support the digital transformation of the economy and society.

It has the following main characteristics: The development speed continues to accelerate. Last year, the revenue of telecommunications business increased by 8% year-on-year, and the revenue of software and information technology services increased by 17.7% year-on-year. The construction of "dual gigabit" network facilities has accelerated, and the gigabit optical network has covered 300 million households. A total of 1.425 million 5G base stations have been built and put into operation, and 512,000 administrative villages across the country have fully realized "broadband access to every village". The problem of communication difficulties in poor areas has been solved historically, with remarkable results internationally. The innovation and expansion of industry supervision have achieved practical results.

Great progress has been made in some special projects, such as the special rectification of the Internet industry, the special rectification of APP infringement of user rights, and the transformation of Internet applications for the elderly. The security foundation has been continuously consolidated, and the prevention and control of telecommunications network fraud, personal information protection, and data security management have been steadily advanced.

At the same time, the entire information and communications industry actively participates in and ensures major national events. Last year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology successfully completed the communication and network security tasks for the 100th anniversary celebrations of the founding of the Communist Party of China, and is currently making every effort to ensure the communication and network security of the Winter Olympics and Winter Paralympics. All venues in the two locations and three competition zones have now achieved full 5G coverage, providing strong support and guarantee for the cloud broadcast of the event and the smart Winter Olympics.
