Energy consumption transformation issues of traditional IDC in the 5G era

In the modern society where technology is changing with each passing day, an IDC data center with modern technology has long been the pursuit of Internet companies.

In order to balance the relationship between resources and data processing, IDC data centers have received support from all parties and industries. In order to build a good data center ecosystem, they have spent a lot of money on costs and technology to reduce the energy consumption of IDC data centers and improve the cost-effectiveness of user services.

According to the 2019 China IDC Industry Development Research Report, the scale of China's IDC business market has exceeded 123 billion yuan, a 30% increase from 2017, exceeding 30 billion yuan. This data clearly tells us that IDC projects will continue to grow rapidly for a period of time, and projects around IDC data centers will receive more and more attention as the online economy develops.

However, the high energy consumption of traditional IDC data centers has always been a problem that has emerged in the development of IDC data centers.

As more and more online industries emerge, many IDC data centers have to centralize their services, resulting in high IDC energy consumption.

In order to solve this problem, Beijing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou and other places have successively issued policies and made strict regulations on the construction of IDC data centers. Among them, Shenzhen has banned all IDC data center construction plans with a PUE above 1.3, and Beijing has prohibited the construction of IDC data centers within the Sixth Ring Road.

Under such a prospect, which direction the IDC data center will go in the future, what development path it should choose, and what technical configurations should be applied are worthy of deep consideration by every IDC staff.

It is a slow process for new types to replace traditional IDCs

The traditional IDC data center industry entered its development stage ten years ago, but due to the booming IT industry, IDC has not been taken seriously. As a result, many traditional IDC data centers do not have standard computer room performance and lack effective management and control and systematic configuration of electricity, cooling, etc.

Due to the above problems, IDC data centers spend too much resources on energy consumption, which not only pushes up the overall cost requirements of IDC, but also poses a huge problem for the computer room itself.

According to relevant surveys and studies, there are 10 million servers in my country, and the overall energy consumption is 40% higher than the international IDC average energy consumption. Nearly half of the resource costs of IDC computer rooms are spent on energy consumption.

At present, many traditional IDC computer rooms lack cabinet current detection and alarm, making it impossible to predict power overload in advance. Air conditioners are major power consumers, and most of the annual PUE and electricity bills are made up of the poor cooling effect and high energy consumption costs of computer room air conditioners. The energy consumption level of traditional IDC computer rooms across the country has even put pressure on the development of the IDC industry.

Because traditional data center computer rooms do not take into sufficient consideration the initial design issues during construction, operating costs are too high and renovation is very difficult.

With the introduction of 5G last year, a new era of technology has arrived.

Since IDC data center is the cornerstone of new technology, in future development, the data center will move to a higher level along with the development of technology.

After 5G technology replaces 4G technology, the data traffic supported by 5G technology will increase by about a thousand times compared to before.

On the one hand, the dramatic increase in traffic will intensify the demand for IDC data centers by enterprises and individuals. In order to support large-scale data access, enterprises will help the IDC industry and invest in the construction of IDC data centers. On the other hand, the emergence of 5G technology has also become a driving force for many online transformation industries, such as intelligence, Internet of Things, AR/VR, big data, and autonomous driving. These server-centric industry developments will need to rely on large-scale IDC data services in the future, and the demand for IDC data centers will become increasingly greater.

In the future, "resource-saving and environmentally friendly" data centers will become more popular and will replace traditional IDC data centers to provide services for online businesses. Various IDC projects will also be deployed in large numbers. Under the leadership of 5G technology development, the combination of IDC data center greening and technology will become a future development trend.

Today, the development speed of China's IDC industry is obvious to all. According to the "2019 China IDC Industry Development Research Report", the biggest reason for the continued growth of IDC data centers is the updating and iteration of technology in the Internet era.

In the future, these IDC technologies and products will become widely popular, and the demand for data centers will also increase, thus forming a huge market. The form of IDC data centers will also undergo tremendous changes:

On the one hand, there will be more and more garden-style IDC data centers; on the other hand, there will be more and more IDC data centers with lower and lower energy consumption.
