Starlink Internet service aims to increase speed to 300Mbps this year

Starlink recently announced that the satellite internet service it provides will double its speed this year. According to a reply from Elon Musk on Twitter, the company currently promises speeds between 50 and 150Mbps, and Musk clearly stated the goal of increasing the speed to 300Mbps in his tweet.

While speeds of 300Mbps aren't unheard of, they are faster than many people's current home broadband speeds, especially in the low- to medium-density areas that Musk talked about in his second tweet.

In his reply, Elon also told the other party that their latency should also be improved to around 20ms. In the speed test screenshots, their latencies were 34ms and 44ms respectively, while Starlink's website said to expect 20ms to 40ms during the Beta test.

The speed drop and latency improvement will come as a surprise to anyone who paid the $100 Starlink pre-order fee. However, as we all know, Elon's promises about the future should come true sooner rather than later. Still, this suggests that SpaceX wants to get Starlink up to speed, and it may be able to keep up with home fixed-line broadband speeds.
