[Shanghai, China, November 12, 2020] During the 2020 Global Mobile Broadband Forum, at the Beijing Unicom & Huawei 5G Capital press conference, the two parties released the results of the 5G Capital innovation project with the theme of "Three Life, Three Things and All Things Going Together Intelligently", and joined hands with industry partners such as Yitong Century and Tencent to launch the 5G Capital Cube to jointly build end-to-end network capabilities and a win-win cooperation ecosystem.

Yang Lifan, Deputy General Manager of China Unicom Beijing Branch, Wang Chuanbao, Deputy General Manager of China Unicom Beijing Branch, Peng Honghua, President of Huawei's 5G Product Line, Liu Wei, Deputy General Manager and Chief Technology Officer of Beijing Yitong Kechuang Technology Development Co., Ltd., and Fu Yabin, Head of Tencent Cloud Game Technology Operations, delivered keynote speeches related to 5G Capital.

Miao Shouye, head of China Unicom's 5G co-construction and sharing working group, Chi Yongsheng, deputy director of China Unicom Research Institute, Tang Xiongyan, chief scientist of China Unicom Network Technology Research Institute, Chen Chuanfei, president of Huawei's DIS product line, and Zhou Yi, director of Huawei's Wireless and Cloud Core Solutions Department in China, jointly participated in the Rubik's Cube launch ceremony.

Three things give birth to all things, wisdom goes hand in hand

As the capital of China, Beijing has a high political status, high user requirements, high environmental standards, and high reliability requirements. With the goal of "building core capabilities and empowering thousands of industries", Beijing Unicom has launched fruitful innovations and practices from the opening of the first 5G base station in Haidian in 2018 to the official launch of the 5G slicing operation platform this year. In the process of continuous progress, Beijing Unicom's understanding of 5G is also constantly sublimating.

Yang Lifan said at the press conference: "Looking back on the journey, we have always adhered to the spirit of progress, innovation and science. At the meeting, Yang Peng, deputy general manager of the network department of China Unicom Beijing Branch, Xiao Rui, deputy general manager of the network optimization center and 5G innovation center of China Unicom Beijing Branch, and Xu Rui, deputy general manager of the digital department of China Unicom Beijing Branch, respectively explained how to build Beijing Unicom's 5G core capabilities from the three aspects of network, technology, and platform. They also demonstrated 5G Capital's 5G network capabilities in various dimensions and one-touch operation platforms in multiple landmarks such as the National Grand Theater, Financial Street, and Long Distance Telephone Building. Relying on Beijing Unicom's network capabilities and platform resources, the partners elaborated in detail on how to empower the development of related industries in terms of smart construction sites, video compression, and cloud games.

"5G is changing society, and the expansion of new businesses has put forward higher requirements for network services. The network itself is not a product. How can we provide customers with tangible services? This requires us to promote the development and cooperation of the industry ecosystem, and strive to create a one-touch network, a large ecological cooperation, a large market operation, a one-stop butler service, and a set of CT/IT systems to build a new ecosystem with organic integration of the industry." Wang Chuanbao said at the press conference: "Beijing Unicom will continue to make efforts, based on platforms, technologies, and networks, to coordinate all parties in the industry ecosystem and move forward with wisdom."

5G Capital Jointly Innovates to Cultivate Fertile Soil for 5G

2020 is the first year of 5G operation, and quality has become the main indicator. How to make 5G fly into thousands of households in Beijing and how to make 5G run into thousands of industries have become the main topics. In the past six months, Beijing Unicom and Huawei have jointly built a 5G ingenuity network through the implementation of the 5G Capital joint innovation project (six innovative solutions first trial, four smart business value realization, and two model points). In the process of implementing the case, we invited partners to participate in depth and jointly develop, build a fertile ground for the 5G industry in Beijing, improve the end-to-end model of 5G from applications, terminals, networks, to business, and set a global 5G benchmark.

In terms of personal experience, both parties are committed to creating high-quality experience model sites, including the Beijing Financial Street model site, Capital Airport and Daxing Airport boutique experience network; in terms of industry applications, both parties work with industry partners to enable smart parks, smart construction sites, smart medical care, smart venues, smart education and other industry applications, and promote the end-to-end implementation of 5G in industry exploration. In terms of innovative solutions, the two parties jointly completed the creation of outdoor gigabit and indoor gigabit experiences this year, and helped expand industry applications through a unified cloud platform and end-to-end slicing. Among them, downlink carrier aggregation, super uplink and indoor distributed Massive MIMO have been technically verified in the current network, and have achieved some practical results, which are strongly supporting Beijing Unicom in exploring business boundaries.
