China Mobile builds the world's largest 5G network

One year after 5G was officially put into commercial use in China, China Mobile has opened 350,000 5G base stations, and the number of 5G package users has exceeded 100 million. The 5G network coverage and user scale are both the largest in the world.

On October 30 last year, China's three major telecom operators announced the official commercial use of 5G. At the symposium on the first anniversary of 5G commercial use held this week, reporters learned that this year China Mobile has built 300,000 new 5G base stations and opened a total of 350,000 5G base stations, building a world's largest 5G network and providing 5G services to all cities above the prefecture level in the country.

According to a relevant person in charge of China Mobile's Marketing and Operations Department, on May 17 this year, China Mobile's 5G package customers exceeded 50 million, making it an operator with a relatively large scale of 5G customers in the world. By the end of September, the number of 5G package users exceeded 100 million.

Over the past year, the price of 5G mobile phones has dropped rapidly, from 7,000 to 8,000 yuan (RMB, the same below) at the beginning of commercial use to around 1,500 yuan in July this year. Now there are 5G thousand-yuan phones on the market, which will rapidly promote the popularization of 5G.

The number of terminal models is also increasing, from about 40 at the beginning of the year to more than 130 in September, giving users more and more choices. So far, China Mobile has more than 70 million 5G terminals.

A relevant person in charge of China Mobile Terminal Company introduced that as of now, the industry has launched more than 20 5G terminal chips, including Huawei, Qualcomm, MediaTek, Samsung Semiconductor, and Spreadtrum, supporting the development of 5G commercial scale.

Thousands of industries are also accelerating their integration of 5G. China Mobile has created 100 group-level leading demonstration projects and 1,000 provincial regional characteristic projects, and has awarded 5G vertical industry demonstration bases in 12 provinces and 20 projects.

Many major projects have been launched in many places across the country, such as jointly building the first cross-border 5G+AR remote assembly system with Hunan Valin Xianggang; jointly building the country's first underground 5G smart coal mine in Shanxi Xinyuan Coal Mine with Huawei and other partners; and jointly launching the country's first 5G full-scenario smart port at Xiamen Yuanhai Terminal in Fujian with China COSCO Shipping and Dongfeng Motor.

Based on 15 sub-industries, China Mobile has built 93 deliverable scenarios, which have currently driven 5G-related contract amounts to more than 3 billion yuan.
