In particular, 5G, as the first of the "new infrastructure", has received widespread attention from the government, enterprises and the public. At the same time, there are many different opinions on 5G, some of which are over-hyped, some are pessimistic, and some even do not hesitate to discredit 5G out of context. One-sided praise or smearing is not advisable. What we need to do is not to praise or smear, but to look at the construction and development of 5G objectively and comprehensively. The innovation of new technologies is the result of continuous attempts and explorations by generations. Although the initial investment in 5G network construction is large, we should also see that 5G has strong penetration and wide radiation, and has become a powerful tool to promote digital transformation and cultivate new momentum for economic development.
As an epoch-making innovative technology, 5G has been given unprecedented "expectations", and various beautiful imaginations have made 5G more and more popular. The main theme of some propaganda is "5G will bring disruptive and revolutionary changes", but now we are still in the "introduction period" of 5G, and uRLLC and mMTC scenarios are far from meeting expectations, which has caused a huge gap between "expectations" and actual experience, causing some people to think that "5G is not very useful" and "5G technology is immature"...... Different from the catching-up and following state from 1G to 4G, my country has made its first breakthrough in the 5G era. As Wu Hequan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said: "In previous generations, there was less risk of trial and error, but we had to bear the cost of the market, fewer patents, and lost the first-mover advantage of the industrial chain. We are proceeding with 5G simultaneously. We started commercial use one month after the 5G standard was released. It is obvious that it is immature, but we have gained the advantage of being the first." In fact, this phenomenon is not unique to the 5G transition period. At the beginning of 4G, when charging was based on traffic, there were also arguments such as "We already have 3G, what's the point of 4G", "If you don't turn off the traffic for one night, you will be back to the days before liberation", and "You will lose a house for one night of traffic". However, as time goes by and various applications mature and land, all these biased arguments are self-defeating. 5G technology and products need to be continuously improved and matured in practice, and cannot be achieved overnight. Therefore, for 5G, the key is to cultivate and expand the 5G application ecosystem. Since issuing 5G commercial licenses in June 2019, my country has made many positive progress, with remarkable results in industrial innovation, network construction, and integrated applications. It has delivered an "annual inspection report" that has attracted global attention: domestic 5G independent networking has initially achieved large-scale commercial use, with more than 600,000 5G base stations and more than 150 million terminal connections. The number of 5G network users and industry innovations have both increased significantly. In terms of 5G application implementation, 5GtoC's innovative business is advancing steadily, but 5GtoB and toG businesses are still in the early stages of development. There is no ready-made experience to follow. It takes time to explore and practice, and should be viewed objectively and rationally. It is worth mentioning that 5GtoB is penetrating into the production lines of all walks of life and playing a huge role. my country's key application industries and fields are gradually focused. In combination with 10 vertical fields such as factories, mines, ports, medical care, power grids, transportation, security, education, cultural tourism and smart cities, it has gradually gained industry recognition and initially formed application scenarios that are expected to be commercially available on a large scale. For example, 5G smart mines, 5G smart ports, 5G smart steel plants, 5G smart grids, and 5G telemedicine have been implemented and become demonstration projects. Recently, the "5G Application Innovation and Development White Paper - Insights from the 3rd "Blooming Cup" 5G Application Collection Competition in 2020" jointly released by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, the 5G Application Industry Array and the IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group shows that since the commercial use of 5G, the connotation of the 5G integrated application system has been continuously enriched and improved. In the future, it is necessary to further focus on six general terminals and general capabilities to form the "3+6+X" 5G application system 2.0 version. The development path of 5G applications has gradually become clear, and will be put into commercial use in three batches; the application technology architecture has gradually become clear, and it needs to be further integrated end-to-end in combination with security capabilities; in terms of business models, three models have been formed, led by operators, industry service providers and industry customers respectively. Therefore, for the development of 5G, there should be fewer subjective verbal explanations and more practical actions. We should accurately grasp the laws of 5G development, and also need collaborative innovation in vertical industries. We should actively promote the deep integration of new generation information technologies such as 5G, Internet of Things, big data, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence with the real economy, jointly cultivate and expand the 5G industry application ecosystem, and promote the successful commercial use of 5G. |
