According to the latest news from foreign media, Vinton Cerf, vice president of Google Research and recognized as one of the main creators of the Internet, tweeted on March 30 that he tested positive for the coronavirus. He also recommended that people watch comedian John Oliver's show to learn about the virus prevention measures that need to be taken in the United States.

According to foreign media reports, Cerf wrote: "I tested positive for COVID-19 and am recovering. Hear what John Oliver has to say about our national response so far."

Cerf is 76 years old, which puts him in an age group with a high mortality rate from COVID-19. However, his status will certainly provide him with excellent access to high-quality medical facilities. Cerf is sometimes referred to by the media as the "Father of the Internet" because he created Arpanet, a predecessor to the Internet, for the US Department of Defense.

His current job at Google is to serve as an Internet evangelist, helping members of the U.S. Congress understand Internet issues. He served on the U.S. government's National Science Board for six years.

One issue he often addresses is the potential loss of important scientific and cultural data that becomes inaccessible because we have lost the hardware needed to access those files.

The John Oliver show that Cerf linked to on Twitter was very critical of the Trump administration's response to the coronavirus.

It is reported that Cerf is one of the co-designers of the Internet's basic communication protocol TCP/IP and the Internet architecture. Cerf won the Turing Award (the "Nobel Prize" in the field of computers) issued by the American Computer Association for his outstanding achievements in Internet protocols. In November 2005, US President Bush awarded Cerf the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which is the highest civilian honor awarded by the US government to its citizens.
