Huawei 5G Power enables a green and fully connected world

[Shenzhen, China, April 17] At the 2019 Huawei Global Analyst Conference, Huawei proposed "5G Power Enables a Green and Fully Connected World" and analyzed in detail the energy requirements and challenges of 5G services. Based on this, Huawei adhered to the three major concepts of "minimalism", "intelligence" and "efficiency" and achieved the cross-generational transformation of communication power from "feature phones" to "smart phones" with the industry's first 5G Power series solutions.

In order to meet the business needs of the increased network capacity in the 5G era, the power consumption of a single 5G site will increase significantly compared to 4G. At the same time, a large number of terminal sites will be deployed, and the number of network sites will increase significantly. The power consumption of the entire network will increase exponentially, and operators will face the challenge of insufficient capacity of mains power, power distribution, backup power, temperature control, etc. In the future, the multi-frequency and high-frequency 5G sites will also increase the number of equipment, further increase the difficulty of maintenance and manpower investment, and significantly increase the cost of site maintenance.

Traditional power supplies cannot meet the requirements of 5G's fast, energy-saving, low-cost deployment and efficient operation and maintenance. Based on Huawei's deep understanding of 5G networks, with "extreme simplicity", "intelligence" and "efficiency" as core features, Huawei's 5G Power innovatively proposes leading solutions such as "one station one cabinet", "one frequency one blade" and "intelligent collaboration", helping to deploy 5G networks faster, more economical and simpler.

Huawei believes that in the future, communication energy will develop towards intelligent site collaboration, using AI technology to achieve end-to-end intelligent collaboration of all devices from the power supply, site, network, and service levels, improve energy efficiency, and help operators reduce energy expenditures and construction costs. Compared with the single power supply and backup functions of traditional product solutions, 5G Power:

1. Through new technologies such as AI and smart lithium batteries, new functions such as smart peak shaving, smart voltage regulation, smart temperature control, and smart mixing of lithium batteries and lead-acid batteries can be realized without changing the mains power, replacing thick wires, or adding cabinets;

2. Focus on power supply and power core, increase power density by 4.5 times, and provide blade power supply solutions for all scenarios;

3. Intelligent operation and maintenance enables collaboration among functional components, saving energy and maintenance costs.

In typical 5G deployment scenarios, service launch time can be shortened by up to 30%, single-site costs can be reduced by 10%-30%, and operation and maintenance efficiency can be improved by about 40%.

Peng Jianhua, President of Huawei's Telecommunications Energy Domain, said: "As an innovator in the field of site energy, Huawei's 5G Power has made an innovative leap from the traditional focus on power batteries in a single box with simple functions to an end-to-end integrated intelligent solution. Huawei is willing to work with global operators to shoulder greater social responsibility to help operators reduce carbon emissions and enable a green and fully connected world."
