A new way to attack wireless routers has been discovered by security researchers. In the traditional attack method, hackers need to be within the WiFi signal range of the wireless router to capture the data being transmitted and then crack the attack. Now, hackers only need to successfully connect to the user's router to launch attacks and control the router at will. Security researchers said it is not clear how many routers have been affected, but all devices with remote control turned on will be attacked. Hackers can complete the attack using three tools: Hcxdumptool v4.2.0 or higher, Hcxtools v4.2.0 or higher, and Hashcat v4.2.0 or higher. The first tool grabs the necessary connection frames and dumps them into a file, the second tool converts the saved data into a format that Hashcat can read, and the third tool cracks the router's encryption information.
The router was attacked, and the entire home network devices fell This attack method reduces the time it takes to access the router and find the password, but it does not reduce the time it takes to crack the encryption that protects these passwords. The time it takes to crack the password depends on the complexity of the router password set by the user. If the user does not use the factory default account and password of the router, then it should take a hacker a lot of time to crack the password. In short, the more complex the router password, the more time it takes the hacker. Using the default password is equivalent to "streaking".
To better protect your home router from attacks, we recommend that every user change the default password on the router. Using your own password is better than the default password of the router, and if you use a password in the form of "uppercase letters + lowercase letters + numbers + symbols", hackers will find it most difficult to crack. If you can't remember a very complex password, it is recommended to use a password software such as 1Password to store your password. |
