Guangzhou: More than 80,000 5G base stations will be built by 2023

Recently, the Guangzhou Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology issued the "Guangzhou Three-Year Action Plan to Accelerate the Innovation and Development of 5G Applications (2021-2023)", proposing that by 2023, more than 80,000 5G base stations will be built.

The plan points out that by 2023, Guangzhou will be built into a 5G application demonstration city with complete network support, rich application scenarios, leading core technologies, and superior ecological environment. In terms of network construction, the city will have built more than 80,000 5G base stations and more than 30 industry-specific networks, supporting about 12 million 5G users, and the personal 5G penetration rate will exceed 60%;

• In terms of 5G empowerment, we will create more than 100 demonstration application projects and form several national-level application demonstration projects;
• In terms of core technology, a number of original scientific and technological achievements have been made in 5G medium and high frequency chips, filters, modules, etc.
• In terms of innovation ecology, we will build more than 10 5G integrated application innovation centers and supply and demand matching platforms.

In addition, the plan proposes the implementation of six major projects (5G strong network project, 5G empowerment project, 5G integration project, 5G people's livelihood project, 5G science and technology project, and 5G ecological project) and eight 5G application columns (5G+Industrial Internet, 5G+Smart Transportation, 5G+Smart Logistics, 5G+Smart Agriculture, 5G+Information Consumption, 5G+Smart Community (Park), 5G+Smart Finance, Business District and 5G+Smart City). It will strengthen the promotion and guarantee in four aspects: system and mechanism construction, financial and talent support, regional coordinated development, and application security assurance. At the same time, it proposes to refine the formulation of special support policies for the cultivation of 5G applications and increase support for the cultivation of 5G applications.
