The timetable for canceling data roaming charges has been released. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced yesterday evening that the three major operators will strive to implement it on July 1 this year. On March 5, the "Government Work Report" proposed the cancellation of data "roaming" fees. In order to benefit the majority of users as soon as possible, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology urged operators to implement it as soon as possible and make preparations for implementation as soon as possible. Feedback from operators is that this work involves a wide range of users, many types of packages, and great differences among provinces. It requires the sorting and adjustment of packages and contracts, as well as system transformation. Operators promised to go all out and work overtime to advance the work process. The day before, China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom, the three major operators, had publicly stated that they would resolutely implement the new requirements of the state to "increase speed and reduce fees" and would take immediate action and go all out to ensure that relevant measures were fully implemented as soon as possible. It is reported that relevant measures are still being formulated. In recent years, the efforts to increase network speed and reduce fees have been increasing. The 2017 "Government Work Report" clearly proposed to cancel domestic long-distance roaming charges for mobile phones within the year. Last year, under the promotion of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the three major operators officially canceled long-distance roaming charges for mobile phones from September 1. After that, the public has been calling for the cancellation of mobile data roaming charges. At present, mobile data consumption is becoming more and more common. Data shows that in the past year, China's total mobile Internet access traffic consumption reached more than 20 billion GB, an increase of 162% over the previous year. The average monthly traffic usage of each mobile phone user nationwide reached 1.73GB, 2.3 times that of 2016. During the just-concluded Spring Festival holiday, mobile Internet traffic consumption reached 849,000 TB, a year-on-year increase of 236%. On New Year's Eve, mobile data traffic consumption reached 121,000 TB, a year-on-year increase of 245%. The first day of the new year was the peak of mobile data traffic consumption, with mobile data traffic reaching 130,000 TB on that day, a year-on-year increase of 234%. |
