Maersk Group is a multi-brand integrated transport and logistics company and a global leader in container shipping and ports. The company has approximately 88,000 employees in 130 countries around the world, including an independent energy department. Maersk Line is the group's largest brand, accounting for 40% of the group's revenue of US$40.3 billion.

Andy Laurence is the head of production services at Maersk Group Infrastructure Services, which is responsible for the IT infrastructure of Maersk Line. Andy said: "Digitalization has always been a top priority for Maersk Line. Five years ago, 20% of our revenue came from digitalization, and now it is more than 90%. As we continue to move towards digitalization, it is critical for us to have a scalable and stable digital platform infrastructure and to achieve end-to-end visibility in our digital services and cloud computing."

From booking customer appointments and tracking container locations to our own crew being able to conduct business smoothly, application uptime is critical to Maersk Line. Andy added: “We really need an architectural solution that can provide the visibility and transparency we need to understand the weak points of our infrastructure so that we can fix them quickly and in a timely manner.”

Andy concluded: “Riverbed SteelCentral provides us with a virtuous cycle of improvement, increasing our speed of reaction, driving us to be proactive, and enabling us to be predictive so we can be proactive. The solution gives us a complete view across networks, applications and end users. The technology will also be a strong support for digital initiatives across other brands within the Maersk Group (which provides us with a multimedia GIS system).

Maersk Line anticipates that the full implementation of SteelCentral will effectively monitor the application infrastructure and provide end-to-end visibility into its entire IT environment.
