The 2021 Communications Industry Statistical Bulletin released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology recently shows that my country's communications industry maintained a stable and positive operating trend in 2021, with telecommunications business revenue steadily increasing, reaching 1.47 trillion yuan in total, an increase of 8.0% over the previous year. Calculated at the same unit price as last year, the total volume of telecommunications business grew rapidly throughout the year, reaching 1.7 trillion yuan, an increase of 27.8% over the previous year.

In terms of business areas, emerging digital services for enterprises, such as cloud computing, big data, and data centers, developed rapidly, with related businesses achieving revenue growth of 27.8% over the previous year, driving telecommunications business revenue to grow by 3.6 percentage points, becoming the primary driving force for revenue growth; fixed, mobile data and Internet services continued to play a stabilizing role, with business revenue growing steadily.

"While the growth level continues to rise, the quality of development of my country's communications industry is also continuously improving. The construction of new infrastructure represented by 5G and gigabit fiber optic networks is accelerating, and network supply capabilities are constantly increasing," said a relevant person in charge of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

In terms of network coverage, by the end of 2021, my country had built and opened 1.425 million 5G base stations, building the world's largest 5G network, covering all prefecture-level cities, more than 98% of county towns, and 80% of townships. The total number of 5G base stations in my country accounts for more than 60% of the world's total, with 10.1 5G base stations per 10,000 people, nearly double the number at the end of last year. More than 300 cities have started the construction of gigabit fiber-optic broadband networks.

In terms of fixed asset investment, the three basic telecommunications companies and China Tower Corporation completed a total of 405.8 billion yuan in telecommunications fixed asset investment in 2021. 5G investment reached 184.9 billion yuan, accounting for 45.6% of total investment, an increase of 8.9 percentage points over the previous year; the annual investment in Internet broadband access increased by 40% over the previous year.

In terms of user scale, the number of "dual gigabit" users has expanded rapidly. By the end of 2021, there were 355 million 5G mobile phone users, and gigabit optical networks were able to cover 300 million households. The total number of rural broadband users reached 158 million, with a net increase of 15.81 million throughout the year, an increase of 11% over the end of last year. Rural optical fiber has achieved the same network and speed as urban areas.
