On November 9, at the Operating System Industry Summit 2021, Huawei officially announced that it would donate the Euler open source operating system code, brand trademarks, community infrastructure and other related assets to the Open Atom Open Source Foundation to gather more industry forces and build a stronger digital infrastructure at a faster pace.

At the same time, this is another important move by Huawei in the open source of operating systems after Huawei donated the HarmonyOS infrastructure to the Open Atom Open Source Foundation.

What does Huawei’s donation of the Euler system mean?

It is reported that the Open Source Foundation is led by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China and is a non-profit independent legal entity registered with the Ministry of Civil Affairs and dedicated to the public welfare of the open source industry. The Open Source Foundation's service scope includes open source software, open source hardware, open source chips and open source content, etc. It provides neutral intellectual property trusteeship for various open source projects, ensures that the sustainable development of the project is not affected by third parties, and seeks support and help from richer community resources through open governance, including raising and managing funds, and providing legal, financial and other professional support.

In addition to Euler and Hongmeng, the projects incubated by the open source foundation also include AliOS Things, XuperChain, PIKA, TKEStack, UBML, TencentOS Tiny, etc., which come from companies such as Alibaba, Baidu, Inspur, Tencent, 360 and China Merchants Bank.
