At the press conference held by the State Council Information Office today on "Promoting the construction of a strong manufacturing country and a strong network country to help build a moderately prosperous society in all respects", Zhao Zhiguo, spokesman for the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and director of the Information and Communications Administration, pointed out that as of August, my country has built a total of 1.037 million 5G base stations, covering all prefecture-level cities in the country, as well as more than 95% of county towns and 35% of townships, creating tens of thousands of 5G application innovation cases, especially in the media, medical, transportation, education and other industries, forming a number of typical applications such as 5G+4K/8K high-definition video, 5G+smart medical care, 5G+Internet of Vehicles, and 5G+distance education.

Zhao Zhiguo said that 5G has played a significant role in the application field, especially in "5G+Industrial Internet", which has become one of the most active areas of application innovation. It now covers 22 key industries such as electronic equipment manufacturing, equipment manufacturing, steel, and mining, forming a number of typical and representative scene applications such as remote equipment control and machine vision quality inspection. In addition, the 5G industry has accelerated its development, and Chinese companies have a leading advantage in the world in terms of the number of 5G standard essential patents, domestic brand 5G system equipment shipments, and chip design capabilities. 5G mobile phone products are accelerating their penetration. From January to August this year, domestic 5G mobile phone shipments reached 168 million units, an increase of 80% year-on-year. Especially in August, the proportion of 5G mobile phones has increased to 74%.

Zhao Zhiguo revealed that in the next step, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology should focus on the following three aspects to carry out its work.

First, consolidate the network foundation. Adhere to moderate advancement, comprehensively promote 5G network construction, and accelerate the extension of coverage to towns and villages. Deepen 5G co-construction and sharing, and promote roaming on different networks. Through 5G coverage in key areas such as transportation hubs and commercial centers, especially in special places such as universities and hospitals with relatively dense populations, increase key coverage, and ultimately improve everyone's 5G service experience. Through 5G virtual private networks, hybrid virtual private networks and other methods, promote the construction and application of 5G in key industries in terms of network construction.

The second is to expand application scenarios. Although my country has achieved some typical application scenarios, it is still necessary to focus on several key areas, including new information consumption, real economy, and people's livelihood services, and focus on multiple key industries such as industry, transportation, medical care, agriculture, and cultural tourism, and cultivate a batch of typical demonstrations of 5G integrated applications. Through the "Blooming Cup" 5G Application Collection Competition, we will stimulate the vitality of application innovation and select some good application scenarios, application cases, and application practices. Through innovative working methods such as on-site work meetings and the selection of typical application scenarios, such as typical practices in mining, manufacturing and other industries, we will summarize development results and accelerate the replication and promotion of mature models.

The third is to optimize the ecological environment. Promote the research and development and industrialization of 5G chips, modules, terminals and other products for industry applications. Strengthen inter-departmental coordination, deepen supply and demand docking, and form a joint force to jointly promote the innovative development of 5G. At the same time, promote local governments to increase support for 5G in terms of venues, electricity consumption, talents, etc., further enhance the initiative of enterprises, and promote the extensive participation of all parties in the basic telecommunications industry, industry enterprises, equipment manufacturing enterprises, Internet enterprises, scientific research institutes, universities, societies, etc., and finally form a good industrial ecology of collaborative innovation, mutual benefit and win-win.
