Is 4G enough? More than 40% of users turn off 5G function in new smartphones

So is 5G really that important? Is 4G no longer able to meet our needs?

It is undeniable that the number of 5G mobile phones and base stations is indeed increasing, but the popularity of 5G is not as magical and popular as advertised. In my current second-tier leading city, although it is advertised that 5G has been popularized to towns and streets, in fact, only the central urban area has 5G, and other areas can only be said to have it. Therefore, 5G has not been popularized downward on a large scale as imagined, and it is also not as popular as people expected. After all, cost is one aspect, and now WiFi is popular. People use WiFi at home and in the office. Even when they are out and about, many people say that the speed of 4G is enough, so 5G can only be said to be the difference between ideal and reality.

Although many new mobile phones now have 5G functions, according to a foreign survey, although 50% of users said they would not turn off the 5G function, more than 40% of users would turn off the 5G function as the first step after getting a new phone. 10% also said that they would turn off the 5G function when the battery is low or the signal is poor.

The survey agency does not understand why so many people directly turned off the 5G function. For this reason, they also started a dialogue with the respondents who turned off 5G. According to the feedback, it is not that they cannot see the real benefits of 5G or the quality of the next generation of communications in their area. 5G still has many shortcomings.

Poor signal is one of the main factors. Obviously, 5G cannot satisfy users in some areas, such as driving on highways, office buildings, etc., where 4G speed is better. The same serious heating and power consumption are also the main factors for people to turn off the 5G function. Nowadays, smartphones are becoming more and more advanced and have more and more functions, but the battery has not been improved on a large scale. According to existing data, the battery loss speed of turning on 5G is much faster than that of turning on only 4G.

Another factor is that although 5G claims and tests that upload and download speeds are many times faster than 4G, users do not feel a qualitative change in actual use. The reality is that there is no essential difference between 4G and 5G when watching videos under the same circumstances. Sometimes the loading speed of 4G may be faster than 5G.

Another reason is that due to the popularity of 5G, some mobile phones with 5G function will automatically try to connect to 5G if you do not turn off the 5G function. When the signal is unstable, it will seriously affect the reception of mobile phone signals. For some people, they will miss some important calls at some point, so they have to turn off the 5G function.

As for those users who have not turned off 5G, the survey shows that some people do not know that their phones have 5G functions, nor do they know how to disable this very energy-consuming function. So it is not ruled out whether these people really need 5G functions.

Of course, this survey is not an authoritative survey and there are no serious evaluation criteria. It is only conducted on ordinary users, which means that users can participate and express their opinions at will.
