Taiwan's 5G penetration rate is expected to reach 30% by the end of this year

According to Taiwan's Electronic Times, industry sources said that by the end of 2021, Taiwan's 5G penetration rate may be close to 30%, driven by the expansion of telecom operators' 5G network coverage and the launch of more new 5G smartphones.

Chunghwa Telecom currently leads Taiwan's 5G market with 1 million 5G users, and the company expects this number to increase to 2 million by the end of this year. At the same time, the operator is accelerating its 5G base station deployment, and Chunghwa Telecom plans to increase its 5G base station number from the current 8,000 to 10,000 by the end of this year.

Far EasTone Telecommunications currently has more than 800,000 5G service users, and expects 5G users to account for 30% of its total mobile service users by the end of this year. Sources said that the company has built more than 7,000 5G base stations, and the network covers 75% of the current population in Taiwan.

Taiwan Mobile, another Taiwanese telecom operator, has built more than 6,000 5G base stations and has more than 800,000 5G users. The company aims to increase its 5G penetration rate to 30% in 2021.

In addition, two operators, Asia Pacific Telecom and Taiwan Star, plan to achieve 400,000 and 500,000 5G users respectively by the end of this year.
