China Mobile today released its main operating data for the first quarter of 2021. The data showed that China Mobile's operating revenue in the first quarter of 2021 was RMB 198.4 billion, up 9.5% year-on-year; of which, communication service revenue was RMB 177.7 billion, up 5.2% year-on-year; EBITDA was RMB 72.1 billion, up 5.2% year-on-year; and profit attributable to shareholders was RMB 24.1 billion, up 2.3% year-on-year.

China Mobile said that in the first quarter of 2021, the group insisted on "promoting digital transformation and achieving high-quality development" as the main line, focused on the "four threes" strategic core, and implemented the "5G+" plan in depth. The main operating performance indicators maintained steady growth and maintained a good development momentum, taking solid steps towards building a world-class "power building".

As of March 31, 2021, the total number of the Group's mobile customers was approximately 940 million, of which the total number of 4G customers reached 788 million, the total number of 5G package customers reached 189 million, and the total number of 5G network customers reached 92.76 million, with a continuous optimization of the customer structure. In the first quarter, the traffic business maintained a good growth trend, with mobile Internet traffic increasing by 37.3% year-on-year, and mobile Internet DOU reaching 11.2GB; the total number of call minutes was 716.6 billion minutes, an increase of 8.3% year-on-year; the number of SMS messages used was 211.1 billion, a decrease of 12.6% year-on-year; the in-depth implementation of the "5G+" plan led to the accelerated upgrading of information and communication consumption. In the first quarter, the mobile ARPU was RMB 47.4, a year-on-year increase of 0.9%; China Mobile Group will continue to promote value-based operations based on scale and strive to stabilize and recover the mobile ARPU throughout the year.

The Group focuses on "expanding scale, building brands, establishing ecosystems, and improving value" in the home market to achieve value transformation in the home market. As of March 31, 2021, the total number of wired broadband customers reached 218 million, with a net increase of 8.1 million in the first quarter, and the wired broadband ARPU was RMB 31.8, a year-on-year increase of 1.6%.

In the first quarter of 2021, China Mobile Group's communication service revenue was RMB 177.7 billion, a year-on-year increase of 5.2%, a good start. The Group will accelerate the transformation and upgrading, promote the all-round development and integrated development of CHBN, continuously optimize the revenue structure, and strive to achieve steady growth in communication service revenue throughout the year.

The Group's product sales revenue and others in the first quarter of 2021 was RMB 20.8 billion, a year-on-year increase of 67.0%, mainly due to the abundance of 5G mobile phone models in the terminal market and the lower price threshold, leading to a significant increase in mobile phone sales.

In the first quarter of 2021, profit attributable to shareholders was RMB 24.1 billion, an increase of 2.3% over the same period last year, and the profit margin attributable to shareholders was 12.1%, and profitability continued to maintain a leading level; EBITDA was RMB 72.1 billion, an increase of 5.2% over the same period last year; EBITDA accounted for 40.6% of communication service revenue, the same as the same period last year.

With the large-scale production of 5G, the related depreciation and electricity costs will increase significantly, and the increase in the scale of information service businesses such as DICT will also maintain a strong demand for transformation and upgrading resources. In the face of challenges and pressures, the Group will continue to promote revenue growth, cost reduction and efficiency improvement, and make precise resource allocation with "guarantee, pressure and control". While carrying out innovative transformation and momentum cultivation, it will achieve steady growth in communication service revenue and net profit, maintain a good profit level, and continue to create value for investors.
