Recently, market research firm Gartner released a new forecast report, which showed that global IT spending will reach 4.1 trillion US dollars in 2021.

It is understood that this forecast is higher than the company's assessment in January this year, when Gartner said global IT spending would be $3.9 trillion.

Commenting on the revised data, John-David Lovelock, research vice president at Gartner, said: "IT is no longer just supporting business operations as it traditionally was, but is now fully involved in business value delivery. This not only transforms IT from a back-office role to the front office of the business, but also transforms the funding source from an overhead expense that is maintained, monitored and sometimes cut to something that drives revenue."

It is reported that Gartner's focus on IT spending includes data center systems, enterprise software, equipment, IT services and communication services.

Among them, each of the above-mentioned sub-sectors will see growth in 2021, with the main growth drivers coming from enterprise software and equipment. This trend is expected to continue until 2022, but the growth rate will tend to slow down.

A previous Gartner report showed that the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way devices are used and ultimately increased the number of devices owned by each person, as it expects the number of devices in use to reach 6.2 billion in 2021. Among them, the number of notebooks and tablets will increase by 125 million compared to 2020, and the number of devices in use worldwide in 2022 is expected to continue to grow by 3.2% to 6.4 billion.
