At present, the number of 5G base stations in China is nearly 720,000, and the number of 5G terminal connections has exceeded 200 million. According to Qualcomm's forecast, all this is not impossible. However, what runs counter to the rapid development of 5G is the utilization rate of 5G networks.
At the theme forum "Gigabit Optical Networks Promote New Growth of Digital Economy", an expert mentioned that the current utilization rate of 5G networks is less than 3%, which can be described as "depressed". The introduction of any technology, no matter how advanced, must pay attention to practicality. Whether it is today's driverless cars or various black technologies, they are all based on people's need to use them, and 5G should not be an exception. But is 5G really neglected because of its low practicality? Existence is reasonable. Nowadays, 5G is used in many aspects, which shows that 5G has gradually penetrated into people's lives. For example, in industries such as industrial automation, unmanned driving, VR/AR, smart home, and massive Internet of Things, 5G can be seen in these places. Let's take a more convincing example. The indoor positioning capability of 5G that we have been discussing not long ago. With the development of the times, higher requirements have been put forward for indoor positioning. Traditional indoor positioning technology has been constrained by coverage, accuracy, energy consumption, cost and other aspects. The emergence of 5G has realized the transformation from outdoor macro coverage to indoor deep coverage, opening the door to indoor positioning. After seeing this, do you still have the heart to say that 5G is not practical? Admittedly, 5G is not practical, at least it is not "people-friendly" enough. Whether from a technical perspective or from the most basic usage charges. At present, the cost of 5G construction and maintenance is huge for operators, which means that its charges will definitely not be the same as 4G in the past. Moreover, the current 4G can indeed meet the basic living needs of most people. Even if 5G is compared with 4G, 5G can allow you to download more than 5,000 ultra-clear movies for every kilowatt-hour of electricity, but people are not very urgent for this demand. Not to mention, there are currently no mature, large-scale applications of 5G networks. Due to the low utilization rate of 5G, some operators even forced their employees to increase their traffic in order to meet the assessment targets, which is ridiculous. But we must always be clear that even if the utilization rate of 5G is not high at present, it is destined to be a future trend since its appearance. However, there are still many problems that 5G needs to solve. At least, everyone is still very curious about when a mature and large-scale application of 5G will appear. |
