Did China Mobile lose? 5G user penetration rate is less than 19%, far behind China Telecom and China Unicom

Data shows that in February 2021, China Mobile's 5G package users only increased by 4.197 million in that month, reaching a total of 173.16 million, ranking first among the three. However, the growth rate of 5G users has slowed down significantly. It is understood that China Mobile added 17.621 million 5G package users in December last year, while in the first two months of this year, the net increase was only 3.968 million and 4.197 million, respectively, totaling 8.165 million, which is far lower than the development number in December 2021.

More importantly, China Mobile's current growth is not only far lower than the growth in the second half of last year, but also far lower than China Telecom, and even less than China Unicom. In comparison, in the first two months of this year, China Telecom added 10.67 million and 6.2 million 5G package users respectively, and China Unicom also added 6.589 million 5G package users in February, reaching a total of 84.543 million. It is not difficult to find that China Unicom, which was originally "badmouthed" by the market, has achieved a big turnaround, while China Mobile, which has always been optimistic, has come to an "emergency brake", and China Telecom has become the biggest winner invisibly!

Moreover, in the data of key indicators of 5G development of the three major operators, China Mobile's market share is less than 50%, and the penetration rate of 5G package users is also at the bottom of the three. Data shows that China Mobile's market share in the 5G field is less than 50%, which is not only far lower than its market share of mobile user scale, but also the gap with China Unicom and China Telecom is gradually narrowing, showing no dominant advantage at all.

In addition, China Telecom's current 5G package penetration rate has exceeded 29%, China Unicom is close to 27%, and China Mobile is only 19%. Only by applying for a 5G package can you buy a 5G mobile phone and become a real 5G user. But in this very important chain, China Mobile actually lost!

I believe everyone has seen the three major operators promoting 5G package users in every possible way. Recently, I heard China Mobile customer service calling a colleague because he wanted to port his number to another network. After China Mobile learned the news, it used "traffic benefits" to retain old users. After China Mobile showed enough sincerity, this user not only did not port his number to another network, but became a 5G package user of China Mobile. At present, the penetration rate of 5G package users in my country has exceeded 22.6%. China Mobile's 19% is obviously lagging behind, while China Unicom and China Telecom have already taken the lead, so China Mobile began to panic and began to please old users and trick them into upgrading to 5G users.

So why did China Mobile slam on the brakes at the critical moment? Did it deliberately slow down or was there another reason? As mentioned above, the penetration rate of 5G packages is extremely important to the operators' 5G development, but industry insiders pointed out that the penetration rate of 5G terminals is even more critical.

Relevant data shows that as of the end of last year, there were 163 million 5G terminals in my country, of which China Mobile accounted for 110 million, and the remaining 53 million were owned by China Unicom and China Telecom. In comparison, the number of 5G terminals in China Mobile's network exceeded the total of China Unicom and China Telecom, and this is the data as of 2020, so China Mobile has not lost in the 5G race!

In short, the number of China Mobile's 5G package users has slowed down significantly for two consecutive months. The sudden rise of China Unicom and the secret efforts of China Telecom have undoubtedly caused ripples in the market, and many people have begun to speculate on the development trends of operators. To be honest, the development of 5G users still needs to be steady and steady. As for which of the three major operators will win in the end, we can only wait and see!
