In 2020, domestic brands of 5G mobile phones will occupy the absolute market

In 2020, Chinese brands occupied an absolute market share in the 5G mobile phone brand market, with the top six brands accounting for more than 97%. China Unicom's 2020 5G terminal market report analyzed the distribution of 5G terminal brands of the top six brands in cities of different levels. The data showed that Huawei had the largest market share in first-tier, new first-tier, second-tier, third-tier, fourth-tier, and fifth-tier cities. Six brands, including Huawei, VIVO, OPPO, Xiaomi, Honor, and Apple, accounted for 97% of the market share.

Among them, the flagship models of various brands performed well, and hits appeared frequently. Mate 30 5G and iPhone 12 lead other models with market shares of 5% and 4.8% respectively. Xiaomi, OPPO, VIVO and other manufacturers all have hit models. There are obvious differences in hit models in cities of different levels. According to data released by China Unicom, Apple iPhone 12 has the highest market share in first-tier, new first-tier and second-tier cities, while third-tier, fourth-tier and fifth-tier cities obviously prefer Huawei's Mate 30 5G mobile phone. Mobile phone models of different prices launched by brands such as Huawei, VIVO, OPPO, Xiaomi, Honor, and Apple have different demands in different cities. The launch of differentiated terminal products is also an important direction for terminal manufacturers to enhance their core competitiveness.

In addition, the market share of each brand has gradually balanced. Taking the market share of each brand in January 2020 and January 2021 as an example, Huawei was far ahead of other brands with a market share of 61.5% in January last year, but the implementation of the US ban hindered Huawei's chip manufacturing and chip supply was insufficient. In January this year, Huawei's market share dropped to 33.9%, nearly half. In contrast, the market share of brands such as VIVO, OPPO, Xiaomi, Honor, and Apple has increased to varying degrees. By January 2021, 5G mobile phones priced below 3,000 yuan had the largest market share and have become the mainstream product in the 5G mobile phone market. Among them, VIVO's sales of 5G mobile phones priced below 3,000 yuan accounted for 73.3% of all 5G mobile phone sales, and OPPO was second only to VIVO at 70.3%. Low-end 5G mobile phones have also become the backbone of OV's market share.

With the commercial use of 5G, a wave of 5G phone replacement has also arrived. However, the reporting of 5G mobile phone capabilities has exposed two problems. One is that the 5G capability reporting and network access are insufficient, and the other is that the actual reported SA capability ratio is extremely low. The main reasons for the low reporting of 5G mobile phone capabilities are that the mobile phone version has not been upgraded, the terminal is silently turned off, the user is turned off, the fee conflict, the networking method, etc. It is still necessary to increase the popularization of 5G network information so that users can enjoy the rich experience of 5G mobile phones more conveniently.
