Myanmar, indefinite Internet disconnection!

In Myanmar, one crisis follows another.

Myanmar has experienced multiple rounds of "network outages" since the coup on February 1. This time it was more thorough: all operators were notified to shut down their mobile communication networks indefinitely from March 15, leaving only call and text messaging functions on mobile phones.

NetBlocks, an organization that monitors global Internet outages, also published a statement on the 16th saying that from 1 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. local time on the 15th, Myanmar was in an indefinite nationwide "Internet outage."

This wave of operations has caused Myanmar to regress from the 4G era back to the 2G era.

However, fiber broadband is still available, and you can also access the Internet via WiFi. But WiFi can only provide local coverage and has no mobility. If you want to access the Internet, you have to stay at home, and the rapid spread of first-hand information is basically blocked.

Myanmar has four operators, MPT, Ooredoo, Telenor and Mytel. They all launched 4G networks in 2017. The number of users has increased rapidly, and the average traffic per person has quickly reached more than 3GB.

According to GlobalData's forecast, Myanmar's 4G users will continue to grow rapidly in recent years, reaching nearly 90% in 2025, and 5G will also begin to take shape in 2023.

After this wave of blows, it is estimated that the revenue of Myanmar's operators has dropped sharply, and network investment has also shrunk. Previous development forecasts will be dashed, not to mention the 5G industry and digital transformation that are emerging in China.

Stability is the prerequisite for all development.
