At the online seminar on 5G industry applications held recently, experts proposed that in order to achieve the leap from 1 to N, the integrated development of 5G applications is imperative.

Empowering thousands of industries, 5G large-scale application has entered a new stage

Since the beginning of this year, with the release of the "5G Application "Sailing" Action Plan (2021-2023)", 5G commercial use and 5G industry applications have become increasingly active. Du Jiadong, deputy director of the 5G Application Innovation Center of the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology and chairman of the industry application group of the 5G industry square, introduced: "This year, the number of 5G cases and projects has exceeded 12,000." He pointed out that since the beginning of this year, 5G has entered a new stage of large-scale application. From a national perspective, 5G has penetrated into more than a dozen industries such as industry, agriculture, construction, and medical care. Judging from the statistical data of more than 30 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities across the country, 5G industry applications have become the focus of development in various provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities.

Wu Bing, a product expert at China Mobile Shanghai Industry Research Institute, said: "At present, China Mobile has accumulated more than 100 feasible industry application scenarios in 18 industries, and a total of more than 5,000 projects have begun to be replicated and promoted. At the 'China Mobile Partner Conference' held recently, China Mobile released the 'Connection Computing Power + Capability 2.0' version. China Mobile also proposed the 'Jiutian Artificial Intelligence Platform', focusing on the major industries of industry, transportation, finance, medical care, education, tourism, smart cities, private network operations, and smart parks, constantly empowering the industry and promoting the industry's 'digitalization' transformation."

From "model house" to "commercial house", 5G large-scale development urgently needs breakthroughs

According to the latest data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the number of 5G base stations in my country has reached 1.159 million, and the number of terminal connections has reached 450 million, ranking first in the world.

Although my country's 5G industry application development has achieved remarkable results in a short period of time, due to the large number of industries in my country, the different digitalization levels and development stages of various industries and enterprises, the great differences in demand and the prominent personalization, 5G still faces some challenges in the large-scale promotion from "model houses" to "commercial houses".

Chen Yami, 5G smart logistics architect of JD Logistics, Li Bangyu, deputy chief engineer of the Central Research Institute of Siasun Robot Automation Co., Ltd., and Zhuang Kan, technical director of Hisense Group, all pointed out at the meeting that in the process of 5G+ Industrial Internet application in the industry, the cost pressure cannot be ignored, and several major pain points on the "application side, network side, and public load side" need to be urgently resolved.

Pan Zhengang, chief technology expert of Unisoc, said: "In order to better serve users, Unisoc has a platform similar to UOB, which can incorporate downstream and industry application needs in advance. If customers want video support, Unisoc has a video interface. If customers want some related interfaces for artificial intelligence, Unisoc can provide them. For the industrial Internet, Unisoc also needs to include it in the early chip platform. In this way, industry customers can customize some module parameters and cut them from the platform we provide to achieve the best cost."

Tao Hanfeng, general manager of TD Tech's IoT module product line, also said: "As a communication module manufacturer, TD Tech will be committed to reducing the overall cost of use and bringing the entire product down to a price that can be popularized."

Building a healthy ecological integrated development to help 5G set sail

5G integrated applications are an important engine for promoting the digitalization, networking and intelligent transformation of the economy and society. Since the beginning of this year, under the guidance of policies, all parties in the industry have actively explored new models of integrated applications and promoted the accelerated development of 5G applications.

Regarding the next step in promoting 5G applications, Tao Hanfeng said: "I hope that the entire industry chain can be deeply integrated, and everyone at the front end and back end can understand the expertise, applications and technologies that each other can provide, so that the entire 5G industry chain can be driven."

Du Jiadong said: "When 5G reaches 'To B', it is a converged industry. No single industry can bear such a historical responsibility, so cooperation among everyone in joint research and the construction of an industrial ecosystem will be an inevitable path in the future."

5G industry applications must not only solve the problems of customization and high R&D, but also reduce the cost of 5G as much as possible. More importantly, there must be a group of pioneering companies that are not only technologically advanced, but also responsible and accountable, and continue to promote the construction of the entire 5G industry application ecosystem.
