Liu Liehong from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology: 5G has become an important driving force for high-quality economic development

At the opening ceremony, Liu Liehong, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said that at present, the new generation of mobile communication technologies represented by 5G is booming, widely and deeply integrated into various fields of economy and society, constantly giving birth to new businesses, new models and new formats, becoming an important driving force for high-quality economic development, and profoundly changing people's production and lifestyle.

According to Liu Liehong, China has actively promoted the development of new generation mobile communication technology and industry, and has achieved gratifying results, which are reflected in the following three aspects:

• First, network capabilities continue to improve. A total of more than 718,000 5G base stations have been built, accounting for about 70% of the world's total. The 5G network in independent networking mode has covered all cities in the country. The number of 5G terminal connections has exceeded 200 million, and the average mobile Internet access traffic DOU per household is 50% higher than that of 4G users.
• Second, the technology industry is maturing at an accelerated pace. There are 218 5G mobile phones on the market. In the mid-to-high-end market priced above 2,000 yuan, the sales volume of 5G mobile phones has accounted for more than 90%. 5G industry modules have achieved small-scale shipments and have been put into use in industrial gateways, smart homes and other fields.
• Third, application innovation continues to deepen, with rapid exploration of 5G applications in consumer fields such as cultural and sports entertainment, live broadcast of events, and residential services. Technologies such as 5G+4K and 8K have been put into use in the 2021 Spring Festival Gala. The 5G application models of vertical industries such as mining, medical care, ports, and manufacturing have also gradually become clear, and have begun to be replicated and promoted on a large scale.

With the support of the new infrastructure policy, my country's 5G network construction has accelerated, driving the continuous expansion of the entire industry. The application of 5G technology in industry, medical care, AR/VR, the Internet of Things, and smart cities will bring unexpected changes to human life.
