Huawei and industry partners jointly release the "5G Deterministic Network Architecture Industry White Paper"

Today, the 5G Deterministic Network Industry Summit was successfully held during the 2021 MWC Shanghai with the theme of "5G Deterministic Network, New Driving Force for Industry Transformation". At this summit, China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, China Mobile, China Unicom, China Telecom and Huawei jointly released the "5G Deterministic Network Architecture Industry White Paper", which proposed the 5G deterministic network architecture for the first time from the perspective of achieving end-to-end guarantee of SLA requirements, clarified the key technologies of 5G deterministic network capabilities, and combined with 3GPP standard development, network deployment and typical scenarios, it looked forward to the future commercial scale rhythm of deterministic networks, which has important reference value for industry customers to plan deterministic services.

Duan Xiaodong, Vice President of China Mobile Research Institute, Tang Xiongyan, Chief Scientist of China Unicom Research Institute, Yang Fengyi of China Telecom Research Institute, and Dai Jisheng, President of Huawei Cloud Core Network Strategy and Business Development Department and Chairman of 5G Deterministic Network Industry Alliance, attended the launch ceremony.


At the beginning of 2020, the 5G Deterministic Network Industry Alliance released the "5G Deterministic Network Industry White Paper", which clearly stated that the concept of 5G deterministic network refers to the use of 5G network resources to create a predictable, plannable, verifiable, and deterministic mobile private network to provide differentiated service experience, and defined the 3D characteristic dimensions of 5G deterministic network capabilities, namely differentiated networks, exclusive networks, and self-service networks. With the large-scale construction of 5G in 2020, 5G has also quickly entered thousands of industries. The concept of deterministic network has formed an industry consensus and is gradually becoming the technical foundation and driving force for industrial upgrading and development in industries such as industrial Internet, energy Internet of Things, and Internet of Vehicles. As 5G continues to penetrate into various industry scenarios, the current deterministic experience guarantee capabilities are still insufficient, and new demands have been put forward for deterministic network architecture systems and key technical support.

The release of the "5G Deterministic Network Architecture Industry White Paper" aims to address the above-mentioned industry contradictions and technical deficiencies, improve deterministic network architecture, enhance deterministic network capabilities, and support more business scenarios. The white paper points out that deterministic network architecture needs to achieve end-to-end full-process SLA guarantee and commitment, support independent deployment of deterministic networks, and be able to coordinate and schedule various deterministic technologies to improve the overall deterministic capabilities of the system.

According to the white paper recommendations, based on the current 5G architecture, an overall deterministic network architecture can be formed at three levels: deterministic service management, deterministic network scheduling and control center, and assurance and measurement. A centralized deterministic capability scheduling and control function can be built to enhance application awareness, coordinate the scheduling of wireless access networks, core networks, transmission networks and applications, make full use of and enhance existing technologies, and maximize the overall network deterministic capabilities.

The deterministic network architecture includes a variety of deterministic network assurance technologies, such as network slicing, MEC, 5G network perception and coordination of services, 5G cross-network domain collaborative scheduling assurance, real-time accurate measurement capabilities, 5G and industry network docking and integration capabilities, etc. Industry customers can choose as needed. It is also recommended to optimize and enhance based on 3GPP standards, establish a 5G deterministic network architecture, and enhance deterministic network capabilities.

5G deterministic network capabilities are the direction of the continuous evolution of 5G networks. The improvement and actual deployment of deterministic network capabilities are still a long way to go. Huawei and industry partners will rely on the 5G Deterministic Network Industry Alliance to continuously promote and improve deterministic network architecture and key technologies, support multi-scenario business needs, and help the digital upgrade of the industry.
