Can the United States' 6G layout surpass 5G and surpass my country?

Can the United States' 6G layout surpass 5G and surpass my country?

At the 2019 Mobile World Congress, Huawei brought a minimalist 5G to the conference, attracting global attention. Eventually, operators in many countries announced the commercial use of 5G, and because of Huawei's technological advantages, it became a partner of many operators around the world. Since then, the 5G era has quietly arrived. And Huawei is also completely ahead of Western countries in 5G technology.

For China, this is a revolutionary victory. In a short period of time, Huawei has obtained 40 5G contracts with a 15% 5G patent advantage, and more than 70,000 5G base stations have been shipped to all parts of the world. However, Europe and the United States, which have always been leading in communication technology, are unwilling to give up their throne of technological hegemony and have launched a series of measures to try to stop Huawei's global 5G layout.

In addition to ordinary business competition, the United States has even begun to crack down on Huawei at a political level.

First, they boycotted Huawei's 5G equipment on the grounds that the equipment affects security, and led the Five Eyes Alliance to boycott Huawei's 5G. The UK even dismantled 5G base stations for this reason, at the cost of hundreds of billions of yuan. The United States even drafted the "Prague Proposal" and held a discussion meeting on Huawei's 5G security guidelines in Prague with 32 countries including NATO, the European Union, Japan, and South Korea. Huawei's global 5G layout was hindered step by step.

Not only that, the United States has even begun to directly target Huawei, listing Huawei on the U.S. Entity List and prohibiting TSMC from producing chips for Huawei.

It has to be admitted that this series of measures is a heavy blow to Huawei, not only affecting Huawei's 5G layout, but also seriously affecting Huawei's normal development. Huawei's research and development in chip technology and the next generation of communication technology will be delayed as a result.

Of course, in the process of boycotting Huawei, countries have also paid a huge price. For example, in addition to having to lose tens of billions of dollars, the UK's 5G construction will be delayed by 2 to 3 years. In this era of rapid development, falling behind will lead to falling behind step by step, and it will be very difficult to make up for it if you want to surpass it later.

Why is the United States so determined to stop Huawei's global 5G layout at all costs? There are certainly huge interests behind this.

5G is considered to be the technology that will start the fourth industrial revolution. Why? Because 5G will bring us into an era of the Internet of Everything. Everything in life can be connected through the Internet, such as the driverless cars that are being developed today. Everything will become more convenient, and even gradually become like the future cities shown in science fiction movies. The technology that opens an era can only be described as a revolution.

From the history of previous industrial revolutions, we know that whichever country starts the industrial revolution first will surely seize the opportunity in the future and lead the world. Britain started the steam age, making it the ocean hegemon at that time. The second industrial revolution started in Europe and the United States, and its influence has continued to the modern times. Most European and American countries have become developed countries. The United States started the third industrial revolution, and the world entered the information age, making the United States the world's only superpower today. It can be seen that a world-leading revolution has a huge impact on the development of a country.

From a business perspective, 5G also has unimaginable huge benefits. From the perspective of the communications industry itself, communication equipment manufacturers will benefit directly. According to relevant data, the scale of China's 5G network construction will be around 1.2 trillion yuan. In addition, with the maturity of 5G and the implementation of products, it will promote industrial upgrading. According to the forecast of the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, in 2025, the direct economic output driven by 5G will reach 3.3 trillion yuan, and in 2030, it will reach 6.3 trillion yuan, while in 2020, this figure was only 484 billion yuan.

In 10 years, the market has increased more than ten times, which shows the huge benefits. Among them, the Internet of Things market has grown from 930 billion in 2016 to 1830 billion in 2020. The Internet of Vehicles market has grown from 33 billion in 2015 to 220 billion in 2020. With the development of 5G, various capitals will surely pour into it, which will also drive the development of various related industries besides mobile phones. For example, VR/AR, smart cities, smart agriculture, industrial Internet, unmanned driving, smart homes, smart medical care, drones, emergency safety and many other fields.

5G will become the core point of industrialization in all walks of life and the guarantee of profitability for related enterprises. Therefore, the country that first masters and develops 5G will gain dividends in countless industries, thereby driving the development of national economy and science and technology. Of course, the United States is unwilling to give up such a big piece of the cake anyway.

However, despite the United States's blockade, it still cannot stop Huawei's 5G development. Although the development is currently hindered, it still exceeds other countries in the world. At present, Huawei has become the world's largest 5G supplier, occupying 32.8% of the global market, and its share in Europe is also the first. It can be said that in the 5G technology war, the United States has been defeated by China.

The United States is still unwilling to give up. While trying its best to stop Huawei's 5G layout, it is also constantly improving its own 5G technology, hoping to catch up and even regain the high ground. However, from this perspective, the hope is slim. Therefore, the United States has a plan B, which is to develop a new generation of communication technology 6G, hoping to use it to occupy the high ground in science and technology again.

So how is 6G technology superior to 5G? Can the United States really overtake 5G through 6G? To study 6G, the US Department of Defense also announced that it has funded a collaborative research project consisting of more than 30 American universities to establish a terahertz and perception fusion technology research center. Terahertz is the key technology for 6G data transmission and is a frequency band far higher than 5G. The US government has established the US International Development Finance Corporation to provide financial support for 6G.

Musk's Starlink project will send tens of thousands of satellites into space, which will greatly help the development of 6G in the United States. The United States may skip 5G and upgrade directly to 6G, which will be 1,000 times faster than 5G. The United States' 6G will build an Internet based on satellites instead of optical fibers and base stations.

At present, the Starlink project is going smoothly and has entered the preliminary testing phase. It seems that the United States is indeed likely to be one step ahead in 6G. However, China has also been prepared for this. In an interview in 2019, Ren Zhengfei said that Huawei had already started research on 6G, earlier than the United States. And the technology has made great progress. With China's communication technology already leading, it is still very difficult for the United States to surpass China this time.

It will take at least until 2030 for 6G to enter the commercial operation stage. In these 10 years, 5G will gradually mature. It is almost impossible for the United States to skip 5G and directly deploy 6G. 5G will bring about a revolution in the times, so what will the world be like after the arrival of 6G? The world in science fiction movies may be officially presented to us, such as 3D holographic projection, robots gradually replacing human labor, etc. Are you looking forward to the arrival of 6G?
