China Academy of Information and Communications Technology: Cumulative domestic shipments of 5G mobile phones reached 163 million units from January to December

Today, the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology released an analysis report on the operation of the domestic mobile phone market in December 2020: In December 2020, the total shipments of the domestic mobile phone market were 26.595 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 12.6%; from January to December, the total shipments of the domestic mobile phone market were 308 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 20.8%.

1. Overall situation of domestic mobile phone market

In December 2020, the total shipments of the domestic mobile phone market were 26.595 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 12.6%; from January to December, the total shipments of the domestic mobile phone market were 308 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 20.8%.

In December 2020, 45 new mobile phone models were launched in China, a year-on-year increase of 28.6%. From January to December, a total of 462 new models were launched, a year-on-year decrease of 19.4%.

2. Development of 5G mobile phones

In December 2020, the domestic market shipped 18.20 million 5G mobile phones, accounting for 68.4% of the total mobile phone shipments in the same period; 19 new models were launched, accounting for 42.2% of the number of new mobile phone models launched in the same period. From January to December, the domestic market shipped a total of 163 million 5G mobile phones and launched a total of 218 new models, accounting for 52.9% and 47.2% respectively.

3. Composition of domestic and foreign brands in the domestic mobile phone market

In December 2020, the shipment volume of domestic brand mobile phones was 20.553 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 22.8%, accounting for 77.3% of the total mobile phone shipments in the same period; 38 new models were launched, a year-on-year increase of 26.7%, accounting for 84.4% of the number of new mobile phone models launched in the same period. From January to December, the cumulative shipment volume of domestic brand mobile phones was 270 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 23.5%, accounting for 87.5% of the total mobile phone shipments in the same period; the cumulative number of new models launched was 413, a year-on-year decrease of 18.7%, accounting for 89.4% of the number of new mobile phone models launched in the same period.

IV. Development of domestic smartphones

In December 2020, smartphone shipments reached 25.218 million units, down 12.8% year-on-year, accounting for 94.8% of mobile phone shipments in the same period. From January to December, cumulative smartphone shipments reached 296 million units, down 20.4% year-on-year, accounting for 96.0% of mobile phone shipments in the same period.

In December 2020, 40 new smartphone models were launched, a year-on-year increase of 48.1%, accounting for 88.9% of the number of new smartphone models launched in the same period. From January to December, a total of 363 new smartphone models were launched, a year-on-year decrease of 14.4%, accounting for 78.6% of the number of new models launched in the same period.
