IEEE technical white paper officially released, lossless network research enters a new stage

Recently, the "IEEE 802 Nendica Report: The Lossless Network for Data Centers" was officially released. This white paper introduces data center networks, lossless networks, standard setting and other contents in an all-round and multi-level manner from the aspects of digital life-driven innovation, data center development trends, existing data center network deficiencies, future technology development directions, and standardization thinking. The release of this IEEE white paper is of great significance to the research on lossless networks, marking that lossless network research has entered a new stage and will have a far-reaching impact on the research and development of lossless networks, standard setting, and technology productization.

Among the drafting units of this white paper, China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, Baidu, China Mobile, China Telecom, Huawei, and Mellanox have made important contributions to the writing and release of the white paper.

IEEE 802, also known as LMSC (LAN/MAN Standards Committee), plays an important role in promoting the research and standardization of LANs and MANs. Its standards and protocols are mainly limited to the physical layer and data link layer of the OSI model. As one of the world's authoritative organizations for network standardization, IEEE 802 has formulated a number of standards since its establishment in 1980. These standards are widely used and have a huge impact on the development of computer networks.

"IEEE 802 Nendica Report: The Lossless Network for Data Centers" comprehensively introduces the problems encountered by data center networks and lossless network solutions, which is of great significance to the development of data center networks, especially lossless networks.

my country has used the Open Data Center Standards Promotion Committee (ODCC) as a platform, and has worked with relevant enterprises and institutions including the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, Baidu, Meituan, China Mobile, China Telecom, Huawei, Mellanox and Lenovo to promote the work of lossless network technology specifications and test beds. These efforts have played a huge role in the final formation and release of the IEEE white paper.

At the 2018 Open Data Center Summit to be held on October 16-17 this year, OCCC will release a series of research results on data center lossless networks. ODCC has always been open-minded, gathering industry forces, and continues to lead data center technology innovation and promote industrial development. Data center-related companies are welcome to join ODCC and look forward to meeting at the ODCC Summit in October.
