In addition to high-speed downloads and low latency, what other benefits will 5G bring? China Radio and Television has given the latest answer: 5G broadcasting.

On December 3, Zeng Qingjun, vice president of China Radio and Television Network, revealed at the 700MHz Technology and Industry Application Seminar that in the future, 5G NR channels will be used to allow all 5G terminals to receive digital TV broadcast in 5G mode without worrying about traffic and network congestion. He gave an example of whether the Winter Olympics would allow 5G mobile phones to watch digital TV broadcast by radio and television without using data and without worrying about charges from the three major operators.

Zeng Guoqing said that by using the existing 5G NR channels for 5G broadcasting, all 5G terminals can receive digital TV without consuming data and without network congestion.

He said that in the future, with 5G terminals, no matter which operator you belong to, you can receive TV programs for free, and you don’t have to worry about three operators charging you after watching a ten-minute game. This situation will no longer exist.

In September 2020, driven by a proposal led by China Radio and Television, 3GPP reached a conclusion on 5G broadcasting, clarifying that R17 MBS services will support 5G NR broadcasting, laying the foundation for the final standardization of 5G broadcasting.

On September 28, China Radio and Television, together with a well-known domestic mobile phone company, successfully demonstrated the first 5G NR broadcasting service based on the 700MHz network in the Radio and Television 5G Laboratory.

It is reported that 5G broadcasting, which combines 5G technology with radio and television services, has realized the integration of 5G broadcasting and 5G communication networks for the first time. Compared with traditional broadcasting technology, 5G NR broadcasting has the characteristics of mobility, timeliness, and on-demand directional broadcasting.
