"6G Wireless Hotspot Technology Research White Paper" (2020) released

The information and communication industry is a strategic, basic and leading industry that builds national information infrastructure, provides network and information services, and comprehensively supports economic and social development.

The latest generation of mobile communication technology 5G is being deployed and commercialized on a large scale. At the same time, global 6G research has entered the competition stage.

Since 2019, the Guangdong Institute of New Generation Communications and Network Innovation (GNDCI) has jointly carried out research on 6G hot technologies such as 6G channel simulation, terahertz communication, and orbital angular momentum with Tsinghua University, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Beijing Jiaotong University, ZTE Corporation, and the Institute of Space Information Innovation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

On this basis, the research team and China Unicom conducted a continued assessment and reflection on the current status, subsequent development direction and industrialization capabilities of new 6G wireless communication technologies, and launched the "6G Wireless Hotspot Technology Research White Paper" (2020 ) to provide reference and support for future research on 6G.

At present, with the advancement of 6G research in various countries and industries, the vision, scenarios and basic indicators of 6G communications have made new progress.

Compared with the current 5G communication, 6G communication network will be further integrated with cloud computing, big data and artificial intelligence.

At the same time, in order to meet the needs of wireless transmission in the future highly intelligent, highly digitalized and highly information-based society, the 6G wireless network will have a huge improvement in the dimension and breadth of wireless connections, supporting many scenarios such as ultra-large bandwidth video transmission, ultra-low latency industrial Internet of Things, and integrated air-ground-space interconnection.

To support the above vision and applications, the performance requirements of 6G communication systems must achieve such as ultra-large peak rate of 1Tbps and ultra-large user experience rate of 1Gbps , ultra-low latency of 0.1ms and high-speed communication, ultra-high spectrum utilization, etc.

In order to support extremely high peak rates, the maximum supported access bandwidth must be greatly increased. The millimeter wave band can support bandwidths up to 10 GHz, while the terahertz and visible light bands can reach 100 GHz. Laser, visible light communication, and terahertz band communication are the topics of 6G research.

The white paper mentioned that 6G will complete the "massive Internet of Things" and "intelligent Internet of Everything", build a converged communication network of land, sea, air and space, and there will be a large number of interconnected terminal devices on land, sea and sky.

By utilizing the real-time perception and intelligent computing capabilities of these hundreds of millions of sensors and supporting the sharing of AI computing power among multiple terminals, the AI on the smart terminal device side will also officially move from a single device and multiple devices to a distributed and decentralized mode, providing strong support for 6G's heterogeneous, multi-terminal real-time perception computing.

Based on ubiquitous big data, 6G networks will enable AI applications in various fields and create a world of "ubiquitous intelligence".

6G will go beyond the edge computing of the 5G era and move towards "on-line computing", thereby providing a computing power foundation for "ubiquitous intelligence". Computing power will move from exogenous to endogenous, ultimately achieving a deep integration of network and computing.

Based on the above vision, this white paper reviews the application and development of various hot technologies in 6G wireless communications. Please click the link below for the full text of the white paper.
