Will 4G be eliminated in the 5G era? Will 4G phones suddenly "lose network" like 2G?

my country's 5G has been officially commercialized for one year. As major operators have launched various 5G packages and major mobile phone manufacturers have released various 5G flagship models, consumers holding 4G mobile phones are panicking. With 5G coming, will 4G be eliminated from the stage of history like 2G and 3G in the past?

[[338771]]

For a large number of consumers, they do not want 4G to be like 2G in the past, where one day they cannot connect to the Internet and have to replace their existing communication devices. This is because the vast majority of consumers are still waiting to see 5G. There are three reasons for this:

First of all, the charges for 5G packages are significantly higher than those for 4G packages, but 4G can already meet the needs of users, and many consumers believe that there is no need to spend more money to upgrade to 5G networks.

Second , the price of 5G mobile phones is higher than that of 4G mobile phones. The price of 5G version of the same model and the same configuration is higher than that of 4G version. In addition, users have to replace 5G devices to upgrade to 5G network, which is another considerable expense.

Third , 5G is still under construction, network coverage is not comprehensive, and the network is unstable. Many users reported that they activated 5G packages, but did not feel the speed increase. On the contrary, due to poor network coverage, 5G and 4G often switched back and forth, and the network was unstable during the switching process. The experience can even be said to be a regression.

Therefore, "Will 4G disappear in the future?" has become the biggest question for consumers when 5G is developing rapidly. Today, I will tell you that it will not disappear.

4G is different from 2G and 3G. 4G does not need to be equipped with 3G network to operate, but 5G must rely on the 4G core network to operate. As far as current technology is concerned, 5G network will still return to 4G VoLTE when communicating. Therefore, even if operators are vigorously laying 5G networks at this stage, 4G networks will still continue to be maintained.

At the same time, 5G networks still have some shortcomings at this stage, such as excessive energy consumption and incomplete network coverage. As a supplement to 5G, 4G networks will continue to exist for a long time in the future. Consumers do not have to worry about their 4G mobile phones suddenly losing network connectivity one day.

It is worth noting that not only will operators continue to provide 4G services, but major mobile phone brand manufacturers will also continue to launch new 4G phones.

For example, the 2020 iPhone se launched by Apple for the terminal market, although equipped with Apple's new A13 processor, this phone only supports 4G networks. The highly anticipated iPhone12, although the 5G model was launched at the new product launch conference in October, there are reports that the 4G version of the iPhone12 will be launched in 2021.

Samsung's flagship model Galaxy Note20 in the second half of the year has been launched in both 4G and 5G versions. The 4G version and the 5G version have the same configuration, but the price is more favorable.

It seems that 4G mobile phones will not be eliminated for a long time in the future. Finally, if the mobile phone you like has both 4G and 5G versions, which version would you buy?
