How do operators’ mountaineering teams climb “5G+Industrial Internet”?

Industry is the foundation of a country and the main battlefield of the real economy. The digital transformation of industry mainly focuses on three aspects: product digitization, process digitization and factor digitization.

Today, the Industrial Internet has become the main battlefield for 5G applications, and 80% of 5G application scenarios are in the Industrial Internet. So, how can the operator climbing team develop the addition of "5G + Industrial Internet"?

China Mobile: Four focus points

So far, China Mobile has worked with industry partners to build more than 100 group-level leading demonstration projects and more than 2,000 provincial-level regional characteristic projects for 15 vertical industries. "Industrial Internet has become the main battlefield for 5G applications, and 80% of 5G application scenarios are in the industrial Internet," said Dong Xin, general manager of China Mobile.

According to Dong Xin, China Mobile is building the 5G+Industrial Internet mainly from the "four focus points" of optimizing networks, strengthening applications, emphasizing innovation, and ensuring security.

First, optimize the network, that is, advocate fertile soil cultivation, build high-quality 5G, and lay a solid foundation for 5G+Industrial Internet. Dong Xin revealed that China Mobile plans to achieve continuous coverage of county and city urban areas and some key towns across the country in 2021. In line with the national regional coordinated development strategy, further strengthen the "3+3+X" data center layout, and vigorously promote the differentiated development of mobile cloud.

Second, strengthen applications, that is, advocate letting a hundred flowers bloom and provide easy-to-use 5G. Facing thousands of industries, fully implement the "512 Project". Focus on strengthening industrial modules, optimizing industrial networks, deepening industry platforms, solidifying 5G products, and improving service capabilities, and build a 5G+Industrial Internet "5A" product system.

Third, we should attach importance to innovation, that is, we should advocate flourishing and promote open 5G. We should adhere to open cooperation, actively play the "pole effect", create a new 5G ecosystem, and continuously expand the "circle of friends". We will also pay more attention to basic research, strengthen key core technology research, systematically promote all-round innovation, continue to make up for shortcomings and strengthen strengths, accelerate the cultivation of core competitiveness, and master more core capabilities in our own hands.

Fourth, ensure safety, that is, advocate building fences and screens to create a safe 5G. China Mobile implements a one-vote veto system for network security work and will provide an integrated security solution for 5G+Industrial Internet to effectively prevent network, data, application, equipment, and control security risks to ensure 5G security.

China Telecom: Three major preparations

Industrial digital transformation requires ubiquitous connectivity and massive ubiquitous cloud resources, and they must be secure and stable cloud network resources. Li Zhengmao, general manager of China Telecom, said: In order to better support the needs of industrial digital transformation, China Telecom has made preparations in the following three aspects:

First, build an industrial cloud-network integration foundation, that is, adhere to the cloud-network integration strategy of "network as the foundation, cloud as the core, network following the cloud, and cloud-network integration". Especially in the data center, Li Zhengmao pointed out: China Telecom has formed a data center layout with cloud, network and edge coordination across the country, including more than 680 large data centers and more than 400,000 racks, accounting for 50% of the IDC market share of domestic basic telecommunications operators, ranking first among operators.

Second, ensure the security of industrial data. Based on the network security advantages of operators, China Telecom has built the security capabilities of end-to-end network-cloud integration. Through network native security + trusted cloud, it provides customers with more flexible security monitoring and protection capabilities with cloud-network integration characteristics, and builds an end-to-end in-depth security defense system for cloud services. "China Telecom Cloud Dike is the only "operator-level" network attack protection platform in China with global coverage capabilities, and it is also the national network security platform designated for major events in my country in the past six years." Li Zhengmao said.

Third, jointly build an open and win-win ecosystem. In the industrial field, China Telecom will focus more on building a new cloud-network integrated infrastructure, encourage outstanding platform developers and application developers in the industry to embed and use Telecom's cloud-network integrated base and atomic development capabilities in their solutions, and promote cross-platform cooperation.

China Unicom: Three major explorations

Liang Baojun, deputy general manager of China Unicom, said that China Unicom's exploration of 5G+Industrial Internet is mainly reflected in three aspects: one is to build capabilities, the second is to find scenarios, and the third is to build an ecosystem.

The so-called capability building means that China Unicom will carry out security customization, provide high-quality industrial intranet and industrial extranet services, and accumulate capabilities to build China Unicom's Industrial Internet AIOT platform.

According to Liang Baojun, China Unicom will build the world's largest 5G co-construction and sharing network. By the end of 2020, the number of 5G base stations in the country will reach 380,000, doubling the coverage, capacity and speed. At present, China Unicom has accumulated a complete product system including terminal equipment, industrial private network, industrial Internet platform, open application and industrial security in the field of 5G+ industrial Internet, which can provide customized, modular and systematic industrial Internet services for corporate customers, and has achieved creative results in shipbuilding, steel, mining, aviation manufacturing, energy, automobile, clothing and other industries.

In August this year, China Unicom also released the "Eight Action Plans for 5G+Industrial Internet", focusing on building the core capabilities of 5G Industrial Internet, and providing all-round services for enterprises' digital transformation and upgrading from the aspects of technology empowerment, innovation-driven, ecological collaboration, and capital support.

Second, find scenarios. Liang Baojun pointed out that over the past year, China Unicom has explored more than 100 projects in more than 10 major industries. "Take aviation manufacturing as an example. We helped customers use 5G+8K and visual inspection to increase the efficiency of composite material inspection by 80%."

Third, build an ecosystem, mainly using alliance laboratories and joint innovation centers as platforms to gather resources from industry, academia, research and application to jointly promote the application of 5G in the field of industrial Internet.

China Radio and Television: Three Major Systems

Song Qizhu, Chairman of China Radio and Television Network Co., Ltd., said: "5G and industrial Internet construction are important strategic directions for the future development of China Radio and Television. China Radio and Television mainly builds 5G+Industrial Internet with three major systems: network, platform and security as the center."

It is introduced that the network system is the foundation, the platform system is the core, and the security system is the guarantee:

In terms of network, we will upgrade the 2.2 million km cable TV all-optical network, innovate public external network + virtual private network services, and lay a solid foundation for industrial interconnection. We will build a fully cloud-based platform, create national-provincial-municipal-county-community-cloud-fog integrated computing power, give full play to the advantages of the 700MHz frequency band, and deeply build a radio and television 5G network that can cover the whole country. We will strive to build a 5G boutique network with low-frequency and medium-frequency coordination under the conditions of co-construction and sharing, and provide high-quality 5G network services for new applications such as industrial interconnection.

In terms of platforms, we will accelerate the integration of applications and integrate them with vertical industries. We will give full play to the 5G capabilities of radio and television, explore a model with high-quality services as the core and win-win cooperation, promote the integrated application of 5G+Industrial Internet, and evolve from a single point to multiple points. We will support high-speed iteration of application products and new industries with high value, and use machine vision, remote control, AR assistance, etc. to enable new applications such as production and manufacturing, electricity, ports, mining, steel, and automobiles.

In terms of security, we should build a solid foundation for security and construct a public service platform for industrial Internet network security. Now China Radio and Television has started the construction of a national public service platform for industrial Internet network security (divided into a group-level public service platform for industrial Internet network security and a provincial public service platform for industrial Internet network security), creating an independent and controllable security service system and providing enterprises with security protection capabilities. "At present, China Radio and Television has completed the construction of the group's main platform and the Hebei branch platform, providing a model and experience for other constructions," said Song Qizhu.

In addition, industrial Internet identification resolution is one of the core infrastructures for the safe operation of the global industrial Internet. At present, my country has organized and established five top-level nodes for industrial Internet identification resolution in Beijing, Shanghai, Wuhan, Chongqing and Guangzhou. China Radio and Television participated in the establishment of the Wuhan node. Governments, enterprises and users can access relevant information such as machines, materials and scenarios through the resolution system.
