As one of the developing countries with a huge economy, my country has vigorously supported 5G technology research and industrial application from the perspectives of policies, funds, and talents, striving to create a good environment for 5G commercial use.

Since the issuance of 5G licenses on June 6, 2019, my country's 5G network construction has entered a stage of rapid development. According to statistics, by the end of June 2020, the number of 5G base stations in my country has exceeded 400,000. Telecom operators and equipment manufacturers have stepped up their construction efforts, hoping to create a stable, high-quality and fast 5G network experience for users through channels such as technological innovation and production process upgrades.

From a geographical perspective, my country's eastern coastal provinces and cities lead the country's 5G development. Beijing, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Shandong and other provinces and cities have a strong 5G industry foundation, a concentration of information and communication technology talents, a wide range of applications, and active business innovation; central and western provinces and cities are actively catching up, with great potential and a great momentum to achieve "overtaking on the curve". Using the word "hot" to describe the development of the domestic 5G industry can also better reflect the current situation of many places actively promoting the development of the 5G industry.

In terms of 5G users, the number of domestic 5G users exceeded 100 million in the first half of 2020. As of the end of June, nearly 200 5G mobile phones have been connected to the network, and the number of connected 5G terminals has reached 66 million. As the three well-known domestic operators, China Unicom, China Mobile and China Telecom have stated that they will achieve 5G network coverage at the prefecture and city level by the end of 2020.

5G applications are flourishing and spectacular, and have become a splendid scene in my country's "Garden of Science and Technology". In the field of communications, 5G brings more possibilities for the instant transmission and sharing of data and information. In the 5G network environment, long-distance call networks are more stable, with shorter delays and better stability. Similarly, a better 5G network environment can also meet the development needs of industries such as medical care, education, video, live broadcasting, aviation, security, and industry.

As we all know, 5G is rapidly releasing network potential, stimulating the vitality of industrial transformation and upgrading, and providing the desired technical support for regional economic growth. Formulating relevant standards to make the application of 5G in various fields more standardized and orderly has become the top priority for industry insiders to promote.

In the 5G era, the only 5G standard submitted to the ITU (International Telecommunication Union) is the 5G standard submitted by 3GPP. Its air interface is called NR, and the 5GNR we often hear refers to it. Looking at the 5G networks deployed by operators around the world, they either directly comply with this standard or are approaching this standard.

In early July 2020, the international standards organization 3GPP announced that the 5G R16 standard specification has been frozen, which is the first evolutionary version of 5G. In this technical standard, China leads 21 projects, ranking first in the world with a share of 40%. This shows that China already has a certain voice and dominance in the formulation of 5G-related standards, and it also shows that China's position in the formulation of international 5G standards cannot be ignored.

With the gradual improvement of 5G standards, autonomous driving, intelligent voice, etc. have also ushered in new opportunities to accelerate commercial applications. Take the Internet of Vehicles as an example. 5G V2X technology research and development and vehicle road testing have always been the focus of attention of automakers and technology giants. Cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) aims to connect cars to the network, as well as cars to people, cars to cars, and cars to road infrastructure to achieve information exchange between cars and the outside world, including connectivity between V2N (vehicle and network/cloud), V2V (vehicle and vehicle), and V2P (vehicle and pedestrian). How to establish unified and standardized 5G intelligent networked car traffic standards and formulate corresponding plans for the interconnection of various types of vehicles is critical to the long-term and healthy development of the automotive industry.

The standards for 5G applications in various industries, such as 5G smart steel, 5G financial trade, and 5G smart agriculture, are different. Based on the different natural geography, historical culture, and industrial foundation conditions in various regions, various regions should combine local characteristics to promote innovative 5G application formats. In addition to establishing corresponding standards in technology and applications, it is also necessary to establish unified rules in talent training and hardware and software market access.

With the 5G spectrum confirmed and licenses issued, China's 5G network deployment is already at the forefront of the world.
