Recently, China's three major operators have successively built 5G base stations on Mount Everest, achieving 5G signal coverage on the world's top, which has attracted widespread attention. Although the practical significance and actual value of 5G coverage on Mount Everest have been questioned, given that mobile signal coverage on Mount Everest is a "tradition" since the 2G era, it does have symbolic significance.
However, after 5G has reached the summit of Mount Everest, we need to pay more attention to its progress towards commercialization. After all, whether for personal life or for social and economic development, only when 5G technology is fully implemented can its value be truly realized and can it provide practical support for the new changes in all walks of life. 1.2 trillion investment in five years Compared with traditional infrastructure such as electricity and transportation, new infrastructure such as 5G and artificial intelligence plays a critical role in promoting a new round of industrial revolution and industrial transformation. The era of industrialization has quietly ended, and the future will be an era of intelligence, digitization and networking. Therefore, the importance of 5G networks is self-evident. The epidemic that occurred in early 2020 slowed down the construction of 5G base stations and industrial development in China. As the prevention and control situation improves, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued the "Notice on Promoting the Accelerated Development of 5G", setting the tone for the recovery of 5G development in my country. Under the guidance and support of the state, a new round of 5G construction in my country has begun, and industrial development has gradually accelerated. This year, China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom, the three major operators, have successively announced their 5G investment plans, with a total investment of more than 180 billion yuan. According to the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, from 2020 to 2025, 5G commercial use will drive more than 8 trillion yuan of emerging consumption, and it is expected that by 2025, the cumulative investment in 5G network construction will reach 1.2 trillion yuan. How can one not be tempted by such a huge market opportunity? Four major landing scenarios have emerged Compared with 4G networks, 5G, as a new generation of communication technology, has an unparalleled advantage in transmission speed. In addition, 5G networks also have many characteristics such as low latency and large capacity, which can enhance consumers' experience when using VR/AR devices, watching ultra-high-definition videos, and playing online games. At present, the country has introduced relevant policies to encourage telecommunications companies to actively guide users to migrate to 5G. It is foreseeable that the number of 5G users in my country will increase rapidly. By then, individual consumers will become the main target group for 5G applications, and the commercial scale of 5G and the 5G terminal consumer market will continue to grow accordingly. Considering the characteristics of 5G and its initial development direction, autonomous driving (Internet of Vehicles), medical treatment, entertainment, and manufacturing will become the four major scenarios for 5G implementation. As for terminal products, 5G smartphones and VR/AR devices will be the main 5G smart terminal products at this stage. In the next period of time, various types of new 5G terminal products are expected to be launched continuously. Constraints facing 5G development Having funds and direction does not mean that 5G development is completely on the right track. In fact, for the 5G industry, which is still in its early stages of development, the first thing to solve is the construction of 5G base stations and signal coverage. However, the construction of 5G is still faced with the shackles of high investment costs and shortage of site resources. Although the three major operators have invested 180 billion yuan in the development of 5G this year, this amount of money is still not enough considering China's land area, population size, urbanization level and other factors. Therefore, China Telecom and China Unicom have determined the strategy of "co-construction and sharing" early on to reduce related costs. Considering the actual situation, the path of "co-construction and sharing" should be firmly pursued. In addition to the cost challenge, the shortage of site resources is also a major problem. To solve this problem, the national and local governments need to actively coordinate and properly allocate resources to accelerate the opening and sharing of public facilities and social site resources such as transportation, electricity, municipal administration, education, and medical care, so as to pave a broad road for the rapid development of 5G. |
