5G robot inspection: more standardized and regulated processes

As a direct output mechanism of electric energy, mobile substations are directly related to human industrial and agricultural production. The safe management of substation operation is also related to the safety of life and property of the general public, so it must be taken seriously.

Inspections in the power industry are of great significance, but traditional manual inspections not only consume human resources, but may also cause safety hazards due to negligence. The inspection accuracy of 5G-equipped inspection robots is at the millisecond level, without delay. 5G robots can walk, analyze, and charge autonomously according to the inspection plan. The application of 5G network slicing technology greatly improves the accuracy and precision of robot inspection operations, improves the efficiency and operation performance of remote control inspections, and ensures that robots can achieve meter recognition, gate opening and closing status, transformer temperature detection, etc. Robot inspections are more standardized, and the entire inspection process can be traced back through video recordings, which is convenient for later troubleshooting and accountability.

5G AR glasses: Remote connection and expert guidance are easier

Traditional manual inspections are difficult, risky, and difficult to record. With the help of AR smart glasses, the standard operating procedures of substations can be customized to provide standardized operating procedures for daily inspections. In the face of some industry problems, staff can remotely connect to the Municipal Power Supply Bureau through 5G AR glasses and complete their work under the guidance of experts.

5G VR: Unmanned and intelligent substation operation

The application of 5G and VR technology has realized functions such as holographic perception of equipment status, remote one-button control of switching operations, machine replacement of manual inspections, active early warning of equipment defects, and intelligent linkage of fault anomalies. At the same time, it has enhanced the safety of staff and reduced the operation and maintenance costs of substations.

5G technology enables mobile substation communication service access

Based on a series of research results on 5G+ digital power grid applications, the staff innovatively proposed a 5G mobile substation solution, and there are currently cases of the solution being implemented.

On June 4, the 110 kV 5G mobile substation of the Hainan Power Grid Company of the Southern Power Grid was successfully connected to the 110 kV Guilinyang Station and successfully transmitted power, increasing the power supply capacity of the Guilinyang area by about 30%. This is the first time in China that a mobile substation has been wirelessly and securely accessed using a 5G network, and it is also the first time that a 110 kV mobile substation has been fully applied in Hainan.

Traditional mobile substations use wired optical fibers to access nearby substations to achieve data backhaul, which involves a lot of temporary wiring and communication network management data configuration, has a long opening cycle, and is difficult to achieve fast and flexible communication access.

Now, 5G mobile substations give full play to the large bandwidth, low latency and slicing security characteristics of 5G communication technology to build a power wireless virtual private network to transmit the mobile substation communication business back to the dispatching master station. Using 5G technology to achieve mobile substation communication business access can greatly simplify the access operation, and the operation time can be shortened from 20 hours to more than 1 hour. It effectively improves the problem of insufficient power supply capacity in the Guilinyang area during the summer.
