Huawei releases OptiXstar Gigabit Smart Optical Modem flagship product to create six-star quality home broadband in the F5G era

[Shenzhen, China, March 30, 2020] Today, Huawei officially released the industry's first Gigabit smart optical modem OptiXstar series, based on innovative 10G PON, eAI (embedded artificial intelligence) and Wi-Fi 6 technologies to reconstruct the home broadband experience. Senior experts and industry elites including China Telecom, China Mobile and China Unicom attended the online new product launch conference. The launch of this product kicked off the prelude to 10G PON and Wi-Fi 6 optical modems entering thousands of households, which will accelerate the popularization of Gigabit home broadband in the F5G (fifth generation fixed network) era.

In recent years, the broadband network construction of the three major domestic operators has achieved remarkable results. By the end of 2019, there were 380 million broadband users with 100Mbps and above, accounting for more than 84%, leading the global broadband network construction. In the current special period, home broadband has become a core element of people's online entertainment, online office, online education and other types of work and life, and has become an indispensable necessity in life along with water, electricity, and gas. The user experience of home networks has also become an issue that users are increasingly concerned about. Problems such as slow Internet speed, online class freezes, and frequent disconnections have also had a great impact on the work and life of every home user.

Liu Wenchao of China Telecom Tianyi Smart Home Technology Co., Ltd. said: "200Mbps, 500Mbps and gigabit broadband are entering thousands of households. Based on the whole-home Wi-Fi coverage solution, China Telecom has helped a large number of users significantly improve the bandwidth experience of more than 200M. We believe that the future home network will be a ubiquitous high-bandwidth network with 10G PON as the core. At the same time, home network capabilities based on Wi-Fi 6 will also be rapidly popularized, providing users with a gigabit home network with wider coverage and stronger anti-interference."

Li Junwei from China Mobile Communications Research Institute believes: "China Mobile will gradually introduce Wi-Fi 6 gigabit smart gateways this year. In the gigabit era, network slicing is a key technology for optical access networks to meet the deterministic low-latency bearer requirements of emerging services. We call on the industry to support the end-to-end network slicing capabilities of OLT+ONT+Wi-Fi 6 as soon as possible, and accelerate the mature application of Wi-Fi 6 and PON network slicing technologies."

Ding Hai, a senior expert on home network at China Unicom Network Technology Research Institute, said: "In the gigabit era, China Unicom is committed to improving network capabilities end-to-end: on the network side, it has been fully upgraded to 10G PON to support high-quality business experience of gigabit to the home; on the home user side, high-end gateways upgraded to Wi-Fi 6 can not only provide whole-house Wi-Fi coverage services, eliminate experience bottlenecks, and achieve gigabit to everyone, but also provide customized broadband solutions for special scenarios such as education/gaming, enhance user differentiated experience, and explore the transformation from speed management to quality management."

Zhou Jun, President of Huawei's Access Network Domain, speaks at the Huawei Gigabit Smart Optical Modem new product launch conference

In response to the current experience bottleneck of home broadband and to meet the broadband network development demands of operators, Huawei has proposed the concept of quality home broadband and defined the experience standard of six-star quality home broadband from six dimensions: ultra-gigabit bandwidth, ultra-low latency, full Wi-Fi, safe and healthy Internet access, intelligent operation and maintenance, and ultra-low power consumption, and is committed to building a high-quality gigabit home network in the F5G era. Based on this, Huawei has launched the flagship OptiXstar Gigabit Smart Optical Modem product to help operators build six-star quality home broadband.

l Ultra-gigabit broadband. It uses Huawei's high-performance 10G PON network acceleration engine and Wi-Fi 6 160MHz ultra-large bandwidth, supports 2.5GE ports, and can reach speeds of more than a gigabit. It can meet gigabit coverage requirements without the need for a router.

l Ultra-low latency. Supporting eAI artificial intelligence and air interface super slicing technology, Wi-Fi latency is as low as 10 milliseconds, achieving zero lag in services such as video and gaming;

l Wi-Fi throughout the house. With high-gain antennas and Wi-Fi 6 optimization algorithms, Wi-Fi signals can penetrate one more wall than other products in the industry, achieving full-house signal coverage;

l Intelligent operation and maintenance. Based on self-installation of optical modems and the iMaster NCE-FAN intelligent management and control system, it supports remote operation and maintenance management, providing great convenience to users, reducing the number of on-site maintenance visits by operators and reducing operation and maintenance costs;

l Safe and healthy Internet access. End-to-end 4-level network security protection allows users to enjoy the Internet without any worries;

l Ultra-low power consumption. Dynamic energy-saving mechanism, fully powered when busy and dormant when idle. The carbon emissions reduced by electricity saving each year are equivalent to planting one more tree.

Zhou Jun, President of Huawei's Access Network Domain, said: "The F5G gigabit era has arrived, and the experience of home broadband services needs to be reconstructed. In the future, home broadband services will require larger bandwidth, lower latency, wider coverage, more secure networks, more agile services, and lower power consumption. Huawei's new OptiXstar gigabit smart optical modem product will provide users with a high-quality broadband experience, help operators achieve a comprehensive transformation from bandwidth management to experience management, and enable their business success."
