I haven’t heard any news about 5G for a long time. Is the enthusiasm starting to fade?

With the development of communication technology, a series of news this year seem to be inseparable from one keyword - 5G. All major reports mentioned that 5G network is the next important development of mobile wireless technology.

Let me first explain what 5G is: The fifth generation of mobile communication technology (English: 5th generation mobile networks or 5th generation wireless systems, 5th-Generation, referred to as 5G or 5G technology) is a new generation of cellular mobile communication technology, which is also an extension of 4G (LTE-A, WiMax), 3G (UMTS, LTE) and 2G (GSM) systems. The performance goals of 5G are high data rate, reduced latency, energy saving, cost reduction, increased system capacity and large-scale device connection.

I still remember the excitement when the three major operators announced the upcoming 5G. Some people even described 5G in a magical way. Later, "Mr. He" combined water waves, water pipes, water bottles, pools and other methods with 5G network speed to make a 7-minute video for comparison, showing everyone the ultra-fast speed of 5G network, and pushing the arrival of 5G to a peak, giving us a lot of room for imagination.

Because after the crazy discussions and "imaginations" in the past few months, more and more people have realized that it is inevitable to move towards 5G, but it will take time to perfect it. With the real advent of the 5G era, the enthusiasm for 5G in real life has gradually faded. At present, it is still a technical method that has only changed the mobile communication industry. It has not reached the stage of "Internet of Everything". At the beginning, it was believed that with its development and maturity, it would have a huge impact on all industries and ecosystems, but now it seems that the effect is not significant.

On the one hand, people are looking forward to the commercialization of 5G, but on the other hand, many netizens feel that the 4G network speed is slowing down. Netizens said that a so-called reliable person from an operator revealed that the three major operators have indeed reduced the 4G network speed in some areas for their own interests.

So, what happened to 4G speeds?

Many netizens said that they felt that their 4G network speed was not as fast as before and had become significantly slower. Some netizens said that it was difficult to load pictures when browsing web pages and that the screen would freeze when watching videos. Some netizens also complained that they could clearly feel the sluggishness caused by the network speed when playing games, and sometimes there was a freeze.

In fact, it is not difficult to imagine that just like when switching from mobile network to WiFi network, even if you turn on WiFi, sometimes you will still drop to the mobile network crazily. So they simply turn off the WiFi function and find that they seem to be the ones who try something new and then get diarrhea. The extra money they spent on the WiFi function bought them an experience that did not meet their expectations, was discounted or even regressed. This is the same as turning on 5G but still using 4G.

As the older generation said, if you want to get rich, you must first build roads. Isn’t information dissemination an invisible road? Open, smooth and fast roads will bring people closer and closer, people and service providers closer and closer, people’s senses closer and closer, and people have greater expectations for future life.

Of course, the beauty of 5G cannot just be limited to publicity and public opinion. I believe that as the technology improves, more and more people will feel the charm that 5G brings to life and technology. I also believe that one day in the future 5G will completely change our way of life, and the scenes of "Internet of Everything" like in science fiction movies will become daily routine, and our lives will definitely be more exciting.
