Beijing time on the 24th, Russian Deputy Minister of Communications Aleksei Sokolov said on Monday that Russia has completed a series of tests and the results showed that its network services can still operate effectively after being isolated from the global Internet.
The test, which took place over several days on a specially designated network, comes after Russia proposed a "sovereign internet" bill in November in response to what it called the "aggressiveness" of the U.S. national cybersecurity strategy. Under the bill, government agencies and security services, as well as all communications operators, messaging and email providers, must participate in the test, but it will not affect regular internet users. "Our goal is to provide uninterrupted Internet services on Russian territory under all circumstances," Sokolov said. "The results of this assessment show that government agencies and communications operators are ready to effectively respond to threats while ensuring the effective operation of the Internet and communications." He added that the Russian Communications Ministry will write a report on the results of the test and submit it to President Putin for review. |
